Job Description:

Laguna College of Art + Design is seeking a full-time experienced Assistant Professor of Game Development. The College is located in an internationally recognized arts colony in Laguna Beach, California and offers a diversity of majors in Animation, Graphic Design and Digital Media, Fine Art, Game Development, Illustration, and Entertainment Design.

Position Summary:

This position reports to the Chair of the Game Development Program and will work alongside the Chair in the routine duties of the major. All full-time faculty members work collectively to drive the Game Development major into the future.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teaches a full course load of 18 units per year and maintains regular on-campus office hours (classes may include: Game Design, Level Design, Introduction to Game Studies, Programming for Games, Game Engine Development, etc.)
  2. Instructs, manages, and supervises students in classrooms through demonstrations, discussions, visual aids, field trips, individualized instruction, and lectures
  3. Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study based on learning outcomes
  4. Attends faculty senate meetings; serves on committees as assigned
  5. Aids game students in obtaining their career goals while also exposing them to other opportunities that they may not have considered
  6. Assists students in course scheduling
  7. Assists department advisers, Chair, and other faculty in maintaining an exceptional game program with a positive learning environment
  8. Participates in Admissions recruitment events such as portfolio days, student registration, LCAD Open House, New Student Events, and assists with transcript/portfolio evaluation of transfer students
  9. Helps create connections with other LCAD majors and other schools
  10. Works with Chair and Faculty in development of departmental policies, curriculum content, instructional standards, and evaluation methods
  11. Participates in student assessment, including Advancement Review

Education

Master’s degree, or commensurate education and experience

Experience

  1. 3 years of teaching experience required, 5+ years of teaching experience preferred
  2. 3+ shipped and published game projects preferred

Position Requirements

  1. Game industry experience desired
  2. Strong skills in design, documentation, and programming, as related to game development required
  3. Some administrative supervisory experience preferred
  4. Must be self-motivated, focused, proactive, and maintain a positive attitude
  5. Ability to develop strong relationships with all levels of employees, management, students, industry open house participants, and community members required
  6. Proficiency in working with game engines such as Unity, Unreal, (or equivalent) required
  7. Proficiency in C#, C++, and other relevant languages utilized in game development required
  8. Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Suites preferred (or equivalent)
  9. Demonstrated effectiveness as a culturally competent professional with broad experience interacting with and supporting the needs of a diverse student population and/or staff and faculty required
  10. Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required
  11. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team required
  12. Excellent organizational skills required
  13. Must be self-motivated, focused, and proactive
  14. Excellent spelling, grammar, and editing skills required
  15. Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced, demanding environment required
  16. Experience in higher education preferred

Must be able to drive personal vehicle for business purposes and must pass DMV background check and have minimum insurance requirements as set by LCAD.

Physical Essential Functions:

Sitting, typing, and moving from one place to another. Occasional bending, stooping, and squatting. This position takes place indoors in an office environment sitting at a desk and working in front of a computer. Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.

Classification and Status:

This is an exempt, full-time faculty position.

Salary Range: $76,815.98 - $82,724.90 per year

Background Check:

This individual will be required to undergo a job-related background check, inclusive of employment and education verification. Some positions may require successful completion of a post-offer agility test. Employment is contingent on satisfactory results of the aforementioned, in addition to compliance with requirements cited in this job description.
