Systems Engineer (Full-Time)

Job Summary: Systems Engineer (Customer-Facing Role)

A Systems Engineer is sought for a technical, client-facing position focused on managing and optimizing server and cloud infrastructure—especially in Linux environments. The role includes supporting managed services operations, provisioning services, automating tasks via scripting, and ensuring overall system performance, reliability, and availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Administer and maintain Linux servers and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) in hybrid infrastructures.
  2. Handle performance monitoring, capacity planning, and security updates.
  3. Support and maintain centralized web filtering systems.
  4. Work with virtualization (KVM/Libvirt) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  5. Manage DNS and other mission-critical services.
  6. Serve as escalation point for complex technical issues and mentor junior engineers.
  7. Lead customer-facing support efforts for Linux, cloud, and automation.
  8. Develop and maintain automation scripts (Ansible, Puppet, Bash, Python, Perl).
  9. Advise clients on best practices for infrastructure, security, and performance.
  10. Implement and maintain industry-compliant security (HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GDPR).
  11. Document systems, procedures, and automation processes.

Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years managing/supporting Linux systems and applications.
  2. Strong experience with virtualization (VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, Xen).
  3. Skilled in containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  4. Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl).
  5. Experience with config management tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  6. Familiarity with monitoring/logging tools (Icinga, Nagios, Prometheus).
  7. Solid understanding of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, routing).
  8. Ability to work independently and in fast-paced, customer-oriented environments.

Communication & Work Style:

  1. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Able to translate complex technical concepts for varied audiences.
  3. Capable of writing reports, procedures, and documentation clearly.

Work Conditions:

  1. On-call rotation required; occasional late-night or emergency support.
  2. Position is exempt; work hours depend on task completion.
  3. Travel up to 10–20% may be required for on-site customer support.
  4. Must maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  5. Must be flexible to support 24/7/365 operations.
