Position Overview:

The Software Development Manager for the SBS Design Team will lead a team of software developers and testers in the development of desktop design solutions for utility industries. SBS is a growing company, and this team is responsible for developing and maintaining our flagship products, which are widely used in the industry. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and experience in managing agile development processes. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring high-quality software delivery, optimizing development workflows, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. This position also requires a leader who can mentor younger developers and occasionally roll up their sleeves to assist the team when necessary.

The successful candidate will work remotely.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership & Development: Provide direction, mentorship, and career development for a team of software developers and test developers.
  2. Project Management: Plan, prioritize, and oversee the execution of software development initiatives in alignment with business goals and timelines.
  3. Technical Oversight: Ensure the adoption of best practices in software architecture, coding standards, and quality assurance.
  4. Process Improvement: Drive efficiency through agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and automation tools.
  5. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, business analysts, and stakeholders to define and refine software requirements.
  6. Performance Management: Set key performance indicators (KPIs) and measure team effectiveness in delivering high-quality software.
  7. Budget & Resource Allocation: Manage team budgets and resource allocation to maximize return on investment.
  8. Innovation & Strategy: Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure the team remains competitive and forward-thinking.
  9. Stakeholder Communication: Report on development progress, challenges, and achievements to executive leadership and stakeholders.
  10. Hands-on Support: Occasionally contribute to development efforts, troubleshooting issues, participating in code reviews, or writing code to support the team as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  2. 7+ years of experience in software development with at least 3+ years in a leadership role.
  3. Proven expertise in developing desktop applications, preferably for industrial or utility markets.
  4. Strong experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  5. Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) best practices.
  6. Experience with modern software development tools and frameworks.
  7. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  8. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Familiarity with CAD and GIS systems, specifically Autodesk and ESRI products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in managing distributed teams is a plus.
  2. Experience with SBS products such as Automated Utility Design & Substation Design Suite.
  3. Familiarity with AEC and enterprise utility software ecosystems.
  4. Experience in cloud migration, SaaS, PaaS, and DevOps practices.
  5. Knowledge of UX/UI design principles and best practices.
  6. AWS experience preferred.

Compensation:

Pay Range of $150,000 - $160,000.

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies.
