Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as Project Coordinator. Assists in leading the department in the implementation and development of a more efficient, flexible, and strong public health infrastructure, advance health equity, increase the public health workforce, and build stronger public health foundational capabilities.

Job Responsibilities

1. Serves as Project Coordinator (PC) working in coordination with the Project Director responsible for assisting in the overall strategic management of goals, activities, and outcomes of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Public Health Infrastructure Grant Program for the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Acts as secondary project contact person and liaison identified to assist in the coordination of the CDC Public Health Infrastructure Grant Program.

2. Assists the Project Director with project implementation including all activities, outputs, and outcomes related to project management and administration, including reporting, budget development, revisions, monitoring, execution of project plans, and project performance.

3. Monitors and ensures the project produces the specified results in the workplan within the timeline and budget parameters.

4. Conduct reviews as required to ensure accountability of all project activities as well as the accurate and timely reporting of deliverables.

5. Works closely with the Project Director and IDPH executive leadership to ensure compliance with programmatic targets and deliverables.

6. Advises on project management, promotes the project through advocacy, presentations, and participation in forums representing the Illinois Department of Public Health.

7. Assists with and oversees the development and monitoring of an evaluation plan for the project from implementation to conclusion to capture project performance and results.

8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in business or public administration.
  • Requires two years of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years managing, designing, implementing and evaluating projects or programs.
  • Two years experience strengthening organizations and/or public health or healthcare systems to build capacity and efficiencies.
  • Two years experience managing and communicating to liaise and advocate with governmental agencies, leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Two years experience writing technical reports and program documents and deliver presentations.
  • Two years experience delivering presentations.
  • Two years experience communicating both verbally and in writing.
