We are seeking a full-time Principal, WEX Venture Capital, either remote or based in our beautiful waterfront office in Portland, Maine. The ideal candidate is highly motivated to explore areas of opportunity, develop dealflow, and drive due diligence processes. The role may also offer the opportunity for post-investment monitoring and engagement as observer on the board of directors of WEX VC portfolio companies. You will contribute significantly to the impact of our fund on WEX, the startup ecosystem, and the energy transition more broadly.

In This Role, You’ll Get To
 

• Source new investment opportunities that meet our investment criteria throughout North America, Europe, and Israel
• Provide financial and market analysis to support the development of investment cases, including assessment of the value to WEX through working in close collaboration with WEX’s commercial and product teams
• Lead due diligence efforts for potential investments, coordinating a working group of internal and external subject matter experts in our network
• Cultivate a close working relationship with business stakeholders to ensure alignment of strategy, sharing of knowledge and ongoing relevance to business groups
• Help manage our deal pipeline, screening, and scouting processes, and scale our fund’s capabilities by identifying opportunities for improvement
• Engage with our network of peer investors, representing WEX VC on regular check-ins
• Revise and improve our investment theses in important sub-sectors of sustainable mobility
• Represent WEX VC at industry events and conferences, and publish and speak about our climate tech mission and strategy
   

We Are Looking For Someone Who Has
 

• 8-10 years of professional experience with track record in venture capital, incubation, M&A/Corporate Finance, Business Development or start-up management in renewable energy, mobility, or software
• MBA from top tiered business school preferred
• Extensive business acumen and executive presence
• Experience in venture capital or private equity due diligence efforts that culminated in successful investments in the millions of dollars
• Deep technical or market understanding of several sub-sectors within climate tech and/or mobility and an ability to identify key challenges and opportunities in those areas
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, a network aligned with our field, and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with startup leaders and other external partners
• The entrepreneurial spirit, sense of ownership, and willingness to take on work outside the core job description that is required to scale a new venture fund entering its second year

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan. Salary Pay Range: $114,000.00 - $152,000.00
