Creative Photography Expert (Contract)

Hourly Contract | Remote | $60 per hour

1. About the Role

Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research lab to recruit experienced photographers for a short-term creative project focused on enhancing next-generation AI models’ understanding of visual media.

This is a unique opportunity for visual creatives to apply their technical and artistic expertise in a research-driven environment. You’ll capture and describe original, high-quality images that train AI systems to interpret lighting, composition, and creative intent.

Ideal candidates are passionate photographers with strong communication skills and an openness to experimental visual formats. Multiple photographers will be hired for this project.

2. Key Responsibilities

1. Capture and deliver original, high-resolution photographs aligned with project guidelines.
2. Adjust lighting, composition, and framing to ensure consistency across images.
3. Work with flexible and creative prompts, including experimental or non-traditional visual instructions.
4. Upload and tag image files using standardized naming and metadata formats.
5. Write clear, concise annotations describing visual content, context, and artistic intent.

3. Ideal Qualifications

1. Access to a DSLR or equivalent high-quality camera and tripod (smartphones not accepted).
2. Proven ability to produce professional-quality images — through freelance, professional, or academic experience.
3. Excellent written communication skills for image descriptions and contextual notes.
4. Detail-oriented and organized with strong creative judgment.
5. Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university in the U.S.

1. Location: Fully remote and asynchronous — complete tasks on your own schedule.
2. Workload: Approximately 20 hours per week, project-based.
3. Duration: Short-term, with potential extension based on quality and output.
4. Start Date: Immediate openings available.

5. Compensation & Contract Terms

1. Rate: ~$60/hour (effective rate, paid per task completion and quality of output).
2. Classification: Independent Contractor (via Mercor).
3. Payments: Weekly via Stripe Connect for completed and approved work.
4. Contractors maintain full creative autonomy within project guidelines.
