Girls Incorporated of New York City (GINYC) delivers life-changing programs that inspire girls to be strong, smart, and bold. The Outreach Program Specialist will be focused on implementing the "Healthy Sexuality and Mind Body Matters" curricula for middle and high school students at partnering schools across the city. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in health education, with a particular emphasis on sexual health and mental wellness. They should be skilled at fostering an environment that promotes both physical and mental well-being among adolescents. Additionally, facilitation responsibilities may extend to areas such as academic achievement, post-secondary preparation, and leadership development. The candidate may also be asked to facilitate other curricula as needed to support program goals.
This role requires the delivery of a comprehensive and sensitive educational program through interactive activities and discussions, aimed at enhancing students' understanding of healthy relationships, self-esteem, body positivity, and mental health strategies. The Program Specialist will play a key role in empowering students with knowledge and skills for making informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Key to this position is the ability to actively engage students in meaningful learning experiences, acting as a positive role model and demonstrating a genuine, committed investment in the holistic success and health of each student.
NATURE OF POSITION:
The Outreach Program Specialist is responsible for delivering programming up to 20 hours per week in a GINYC program. This role supports the overall wellness of participants by fostering personal growth and goal setting. Programming may take place during the school day or afterschool hours, providing the flexibility to meet the needs of the girls. Through unique and intentional programs, participants are encouraged to explore and advance in all areas of their lives, embarking on their own wellness journeys.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Curriculum Facilitation and Delivery: Implement the GINYC SEL curriculum with fidelity, ensuring the lessons are age-appropriate, engaging, and culturally responsive to the diverse needs of girls and gender-expansive youth. Strong public speaking and communication skills are required to facilitate lessons effectively.
● Lesson Plan Preparation and Organization: Prepare detailed lesson plans that align with curriculum objectives and are tailored to meet the unique needs of the participants. Ensure all materials and activities are organized and ready for each session.
● Interactive Program Implementation: Facilitate dynamic, hands-on workshops and activities that engage students in topics such as healthy relationships, self-esteem, body positivity, sexual health, and mental wellness. The Outreach Program Specialist will ensure these programs are interactive and participatory, promoting active learning.
● Adaptability and Flexibility: Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in responding to the needs of students and program schedules. Be prepared to adjust lesson plans, facilitation approaches, and program activities based on participant feedback and varying school environments.
● Problem-Solving: Use effective problem-solving skills to address challenges that arise during program implementation, ensuring that issues are resolved swiftly and programming continues to run smoothly.
● Project Management: Effectively manage all aspects of programming, including tracking timelines, maintaining materials, and overseeing the smooth delivery of multiple initiatives within the health and wellness curriculum.
● Community Building and Engagement: Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves. Promote positive interactions, peer support, and collective growth among girls and gender-expansive youth.
● Program Evaluation and Continuous Improvement: Collect and analyze feedback from participants to evaluate program success. Use insights to refine and improve future programming, ensuring the content remains relevant, engaging, and impactful.
● Collaboration and Partnership: Work closely with school staff, GINYC team members, and external community partners to align program activities with the broader wellness goals of the students and schools.
The Outreach Program Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering impactful wellness education, providing structure and support for girls and gender-expansive youth to explore important health and wellness topics in a safe and empowering space.
QUALIFICATIONS
● Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., education, social work, public health, psychology) or equivalent experience.
● Bilingual (required) – proficiency in both English and Spanish.
● Demonstrated experience in curriculum delivery, public speaking, and facilitation.
● Strong organizational and project management skills.
● Excellent communication skills, with an ability to engage diverse youth populations.
● Adaptability, flexibility, and problem-solving skills.
● Passion for wellness advocacy and youth development.
SCHEDULE: Part-time position, up to 20 hours per week. Availability is required Monday through Friday, with flexibility for school day hours, after-school hours, and occasional evenings or weekends, depending on programming needs.
TRAVEL: The ability to commute and work independently are essential to this role. Travel is required to various sites across the five boroughs, via bus and subway.
COMPENSATION: $25/per hour
