Job Description:

Title: Proofreader (4-6 Years of Experience)

Type: 1099 Contract; Not Eligible for Benefits

Length: Approx. 20 Months

Schedule: 40 Hours per Week

Location: Remote, but must sit in either Eastern or Central time zones. We are open to candidates in various states, with the exception of those residing in the following: AK, DC, DE, ME, NH, NM, OK, HI, MS, MT, NV, NE, ND, SD, VT, WY, and WV.

 

Represent Marks and support our ever-evolving business needs as an integral member of the team, building partnerships and collaboration with both agency and client teams. Partner with cross-functional agency teams consisting of Project Managers, Designers, Copywriters, and Regulatory/Compliance Specialists. You’ll be working exclusively on a dedicated client’s business which is located near our studio in Providence, RI.

 

The Proofreader’s primary function will be to review store brand packaging artwork across all categories (Edibles/General Merchandise, Beauty, Personal Care, Health Care) for grammar, typography, composition, content, trademark usage and legal/regulatory compliance (primarily FDA, FTC), and enforce consistency and adherence to approved brand style guides.

 

In the face of demanding deadlines and multiple, rapidly changing priorities, you will support and exhibit behaviors consistent with Marks values and beliefs in a fiscally responsible manner. Marks philosophy: Design integrity, Technical accuracy and Speed to market.

 

Position Overview

The Proofreader will become proficient across a range of brand categories and style guides by getting immersed in client brands, brand style guides and individual product SKUs. The Proofreader will review various formats, legalities, ingredients, logos, icons as well as learning various regulatory and compliance requirements. The Proofreader is an integral part of the team. The ideal candidate is detail oriented and excels in a fast-paced, creative environment. They will review a large volume of packaging artwork files daily at numerous points throughout the creative and adaptive design process to ensure file accuracy.

Responsible For...

  • Work closely with Project Managers, Copywriter, Regulatory/Compliance and Production Designers reviewing copy sheets and artwork files, checking against vendor-provided copy content files and adherence to brand style guides
  • Read, understand and follow all work instructions via project management system throughout defined workflow process
  • Proofread packaging copy electronically and physically at all stages of the production process to correct errors in type, grammar and punctuation, and enforce consistency
  • Check that overall package appearance conforms to relevant brand style guide
  • Confirm UPC codes, trademarks, phone numbers and other ancillary packaging components are correct and up to date
  • Communicate and collaborate efficiently with other members of the packaging team
  • Leverage established key resources and guidelines

 

Prerequisites

  • Post-Secondary education in Writing, English, Communications, Editing.
  • 3-5 years of experience working as a proofreader, copy editor.
  • Experience in an advertising and marketing environment is preferred; working on complex and
  • FDA/FTC regulated products; pharmaceutical and edible product experience is a bonus
  • High degree of accuracy and eye for consistency and detail
  • Ability to manage large volume of projects at different stages of development
  • Superior organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time while
  • paying strict attention to details and adhering to best practices and brand guidelines
  • Sound judgment and the ability to make good editing decisions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Open to a flexible work schedule
  • Proficient using Mac OS and Microsoft Products; Adobe Acrobat and project management/routing systems

 

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
