Job Description:

SVS Group currently has a full time DIRECT hire opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer in the metal foundry/ mining industry. Our client is located in the Tempe area.

The mission of Product Design Group (PDG) is to provide design services to support the marketing and operational objectives of the organization. The Lead Mechanical Design Engineer is a key leadership position within the (PDG), which interfaces with the North American Commercial group to provide full design optimization and value adding engineering services (VAES) in support of the (Fully Integrated Technology) program for heavy rock mining crushers. The engineering specialist would be the technical lead on design projects and/or new product development (NPD) projects as identified by the Technical Director.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Mentor, guide and train a team of design engineers (2) on value added engineering services project.
  • Independently lead key ME-FIT Crushing projects using AutoDESK inventor, 3D Systems - Geomagic and any other tools.
  • Independently create design and CAD models for Vertical Shaft Impactors (VSI) and Horizontal Shaft Impactors (HIS) wear liner i.e., blow bars for various HSI/VSI OEMs
  • Fully utilize Autodesk Inventor (Version 21 or above) to create new CAD models of complex cone crusher components and assemblies, and detailed mechanical drawings.
  • Ensures compliance with required design standards, manuals, safety factors, geometric tolerances, and customer, marketing, and engineering specifications.
  • Execute an engineering change order (ECO) in a timely manner with minimal supervision using Autodesk Professional Vault and AutoDESK FUSION Manage applications.
  • Evaluates tolerance stack-ups to insure proper fit of components and proper application of GD&T techniques.
  • Initiate conceptual designs and models which address the requirements from end-customer.
  • Accompany Account managers to mine site and support scanning of liners inside the mills and crushers for reverse engineering and/or wear tracking report.
  • Support a variety of commercial initiatives including wear studies and reverse engineering data collection. Proficient with Laser Scanning Technologies (FARO etc.) and how to leverage it in
  • the mineral processing area including but not limited to wear tracking of mill liners and crusher products.
  • Interface with ME FIT service manager and Marketing Account Managers to develop conceptual designs.
  • Gather operational data from end-customer through marketing group to validate the performance of new design.
  • Verify and validate computational results with experimental test data.
  • Develop technical reports, presentations, and other documentation to support the sales and marketing group.
  • Recommend design changes to meet or exceed product performance requirements.
  • Participate in team brainstorming sessions and conduct design reviews.
  • Travel to other company locations and customer sites.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

1. Bachelors in mechanical engineering or an advanced design degree in a related field, is required.

2. Experience working with a Heavy Mining Crushing OEM company (for e.g. – METSO, FL Smidth, Volvo, Sandvik, Eagle) or a crusher liner manufacturing company is required.

3. Experience in the application, design and manufacturing of Blow bars is required.

4. Excellent proficiency on using AutoDESK inventor (or similar CAD modeling software) for

model creation is required.

5. Have excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

6. Thorough knowledge of Autodesk Vault Professional is needed.

7. Well verse with MS Office Products.

8. Good understanding of top-down modeling and 3D parameterization techniques is a plus.

9. Good Interpersonal & Communication skills to work with others in the department, pattern

engineers, customers, salespersons, and Marketing staff.

10. Ability to work independently in a team-based environment and produce quality drawings and models in a timely manner.

11. Foundry or Mining background a plus.

12. Have Project Management training or experience managing a specific project.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
