Job Description:

The Import/Export Specialist position will control, manage, and be accountable for all aspects of customs, duties, tariffs, drawback, refunds & exclusions, and maintenance of foreign trade master data in SAP. The incumbent will be responsible for import/export compliance processes, filing accuracy, and related process management/project execution.

 

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Customs – In-house expert on all customs related topics
    • Research and support of new product development: HTS codes, Duty/Tariff costs, Freight analysis, Customer & vendor support
    • Key contact for customs inquiries & forwarding agents
    • Maintain foreign trade master data in SAP & with forwarding agents: HTS codes, Country of origin, Preferences
    • Control of the customs guidelines in the company
    • Monitor & control customs costs
    • Maintain records and perform necessary audits to ensure import/export compliance.

 

  • Freight – Support Distribution Manager in import/export transportion
    • Implementation of imports from global partners to the US
    • Implementation of exports to global partners from the US
    • Alternative shipping methods (ocean, air, train, truck) for imports
    • Analysis of port efficiency for imports
    • Expediting and Prioritizing imports where necessary

 

  • Drawback – Establish and maintain all duty and tariff related drawback programs
    • Perform detailed analysis and reoncilliation of import and export data to successfully and timely file claims with broker.

 

  • Refunds & Exclusions – Manage refund and exclusion type activities for relevant duties and tariffs
    • Research and analyze product data and relevant coding classifcations to timely file for dute and tariff refunds and excusion exemptions.

 

  • Export Control – Perform export control: Dual-Use and EAR

 

  • Develop/Maintain trade compliance Metrics/KPIs

 

  • Perform other duties and assumes accountability as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed upon objectives.

 

 

Relationship to Others:

Interacts with all levels of Wagner’s management and employees. Strong relationship with Finance, Engineering and New Product Development necessary. Also has contact and exposure to Wagner international employees, affiliated companies, freight forwarders, customs contacts, vendors, and customers.

 

 

Dimensions of Position:

Ensure the integrity of customs, freight and foreign trade data within our ERP system and with our external service companies and vendors, while managing and improving the respective processes.  Recommends and implements new concepts and approaches, regardless of obstacles, to advance the scope and value of the position.

 

 

Education and Experience:

  • 4-year degree in related field and minimum 4 years of related experience in Trade Compliance or minimum 7 years of related experience in Trade Compliance required
  • Thorough understanding of US and global customs, freight and logistics areas.
  • Experience in duty drawback
  • Experience in transportation (import and export) and customs expertise in the US required
  • Working knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
  • A self-starter who possesses strong communication and organization skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented and able to establish and implement clear and defined processes.
  • Possesses strong analytical skills and have experience in handling large amounts of data efficiently and effectively
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Knowledge and experience in SAP is preferred
  • Microsoft Office products and other relevant computer applications are required
  • Duty drawback experience is also preferred
