Position Summary:
TheRegistered Nurse (RN) Provides direct nursing care to the residents in a safemanner and supervises the day-to-day nursing activities performed by thecertified nursing assistants in accordance with current federal, state, andlocal regulations and guidelines and established facility policies andprocedures. Providing and teaching medical diagnosis, medications uses and sideeffects, and performing nursing procedures, assessing, and reporting residentchange to provider.
Major Responsibilities:
TheRegistered Nurse will:
- Providescare to residents as planned by the interdisciplinary Care Plan Team and usessafe techniques which are in accordance with the Upjohn Community Care Centerand regulatory policies and procedures
- Assiststhe resident to achieve and maintain their highest level of functioning inaccordance with the care plan and provide input to the Nursing Supervisor forappropriate care plan changes
- Consistentlyworks cooperatively with the Interdisciplinary Care Plan Team and families to develop,implement, and review plans of care. Maintains the resident record utilizingthe electronic medical record
- Must useacceptable infection control procedures including Universal Precautions whenproviding care to residents
- Cares formedical equipment and supplies used for residents to ensure proper care andcharges are made
- Accuratelycompletes documentation in the medical record to reflect care rendered andreports significant changes in resident condition to the provider uponcompletion of the change of condition assessment or focused assessment usingthe call guidelines provided by Borgess Extendicare
- Attendstraining programs and in-services to meet Heritage Community of Kalamazoo, the Upjohnand regulatory guidelines, including but not limited to annual skills fair andskills check
- Maintainsa positive attitude and contributes to the facility interdepartmental team bycompleting assignments in a timely, accurate and professional manner
- Complieswith HCK Customer Service Standards and the Upjohn's- CNA Standards of Care
- FollowResident Rights at all times
- Assistnew employees in following established Heritage Community of Kalamazoo andregulatory policies and procedures
- Reportsinoperable, faulty, or unsafe conditions, equipment, and furniture to NursingSupervisor
- Must beable, during a facility emergency/disaster, to report to an assigned area,which will be assigned by their supervisor, and perform the necessary tasks toensure the calm, orderly and safe handling of residents, staff and public toeither move them to safety and /or remove from the threat causing theemergency/disaster

Required Licenses, Registration, Certifications:
- Must be aRegistered Nurse (RN) in the state of Michigan
- Unencumberedby any licensing or state violations
- Must alsomaintain the required CEU's

- PUSH/PULL:Frequently required to push/pull medication cart, desk drawers; or residentwheelchair
- Grasping:Constantly during course of day while documenting medical files. Frequentlywhile transferring residents. Frequently while handling specific nursingequipment
- Handling: Frequently handling paperwork andoccasionally various diagnostic tools such as thermometer, blood pressuregauge, resident personal items, etc
- Torqueing:Required for opening some medications. Required for removing tops from tubes,tops of bottles, twisting linens
- Fingering:Required for using typewriter, computer keyboard and telephone. Frequentlywhile documenting residents' medical charts. Completing physical assessment ofresident
- Twisting:Occasionally occurs while transferring resident
- Bending:Frequently occurs when drawing blood, taking vital signs or setting up anddispensing medication
- Crawling:Occasionally occurs when items are dropped to floor and roll under the objects
- Squatting:Occasionally occurs when making contact with resident in wheelchair or chair
- Kneeling:Occasionally occurs while examining lower extremities of resident
- Crouching:Frequently required when doing foot care or making eye contact with resident inwheelchair or seated
- Climbing:Occasionally occurs during CPR or emergency procedures
- Balancing:Frequently required while ambulating residents in rooms or hallways, orcarrying items from one area to another; and when performing CPR
- Standing andwalking varies form carpeting, linoleum, and tile. Hard surfaces often wet andslippery. Seated: Desk or counter on an office type chair
- Talking:Necessary for communication with residents and giving instructions to nursingstaff, nursing assistants, dealing with doctors, family, etc
- Hearing:Necessary for taking instructions from physicians and supervisor. Necessary forcommunicating with residents, Necessary for responding to call lights.Necessary for nursing assessment
