Job Description:

The Field Museum is a not-for-profit organization located on the Museum Campus of Chicago. Since the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, we have conducted research across all seven continents and accumulated a collection of over 40 million specimens and artifacts.

The Field Museum is searching for a Graphic Production Coordinator to join our team!

The Graphic Production Coordinator sits in the design division of the Exhibitions department and reports to the Design Director. The Coordinator is responsible for tracking the progress of graphic production and maintaining clear communication regarding status. They will work closely with staff Graphic Designers and an in-house print shop, including managing communications for incoming requests, organizing and tracking files, and occasional production of basic signage.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage tracking documents for exhibition graphics
  • Review tracking documents with the in-house print shop to discuss capacity and capability and send out quotes as needed
  • Using information from the printers; determine how and in what order batches should be produced
  • Communicate schedule updates with all stakeholders
  • Manage communication with out-of-house vendors
  • Track graphics through the proofing process, stepping in to facilitate progress where needed
  • Track outgoing files against schedule and batches
  • Track produced graphics, communicate delivery dates, and coordinate reviews as necessary
  • Manage communications for work requests, including timing, delivery, capacity, etc
  • Design basic signs based on templates
  • Manage file setup and printing for occasional graphics
  • Complete additional tasks in the in-house print shop as needed

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in printing, graphic design, or arts management
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience
  • Passion for the organization
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience facilitating collaborative work, including between and across departments; meeting preparation, facilitation, and follow-up
  • Proficiency with Google Sheets and Microsoft Excel
  • Basic graphic design experience
  • Proficiency with Adobe creative suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and In Design
  • Knowledge of print process and materials
  • Some graphic production experience
  • Eye for detail
