Position: Executive Director
Location: Bremerton, WA
Salary Range: $68,000 - $75,000, depending on experience.
Position Type: Full-time (40 hours per week) salaried, exempt. 3 days required in office plus evening event attendance.
Benefits: Health care and retirement benefits (specifics to be negotiated); paid time off including holidays, vacation, and sick time.
Travel Required: Minimal for local events as well as annual conferences and Main
Street workshops.
Reports to: Serves at the direction of the Downtown Bremerton Association Board of
Directors with a designated supervisor (typically the President).

About the Downtown Bremerton Association
The Downtown Bremerton Association (DBA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization following the Main Street Approach® to downtown revitalization since 2009. The DBA’s mission is to foster diversity and connections through community partnerships, advocacy, and engagement to revitalize and enrich our downtown core. The DBA is currently an Affiliate with the Washington State Main Street program and is working to strengthen our organization’s capacity and impact in anticipation of reaching the next level, designation as a Main Street Community.
Overview of Position
The Executive Director coordinates the activities of the Downtown Bremerton
Association (DBA), a Main Street program utilizing historic preservation as an integral foundation for downtown economic development. The Executive Director encourages public awareness of the program activities and acts as a liaison to all committees and partner organizations. The Executive Director will serve as a full-time advocate for the downtown and as an authority and source for information, resources, and activities related to downtown’s revitalization. The Executive Director will be accountable to the
President (or another designated supervisor) of the Board of Directors and report monthly to the Board of Directors.
Duties
Program Development and Management (65%)
- Developing, in conjunction with the board, appropriate downtown revitalization strategies.
- Developing and conducting, in conjunction with the board and committees, ongoing public awareness and education programs.
- Leading and assigning tasks to ensure the Main Street Community application is complete with support from and collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Recruiting, coordinating, and supervising volunteers to accomplish activities of all committees (Design, Economic Vitality, Organization/Outreach, Promotions, and sub-committees as necessary).
- Managing administrative aspects of the program.
- Fulfilling the DBA’s grant and funding contract obligations.
- Developing and maintaining a data system to track the progress of the local program.
- Attending and managing special events outside of regular business hours.
- Directing the development of resources for the financial sustainability and fiscal growth of the Downtown Bremerton Association, including donations, partnerships, grants, sponsorships, campaigns, investors/members and other fundraising activities.
- Writing grants and assisting in raising operational and event funds.
- On-site support at sanctioned DBA events (currently St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Femmes & Thems Night, Rock the Dock concert series, Halloween Costume Exchange and Trick or Treat Street, and Winterfest, plus monthly Green Drinks networking events)
- Active participant at DBA membership, Board, and Committee meetings (approximately 6 Meetings per month).
Communication and Relationship Building (30%)
- Fostering a cooperative climate with other community organizations and with the business community.
- Assisting business and property owners with business and property improvement projects.
- Helping to build productive relationships with appropriate public entities.
- Serving as an advocate for downtown issues at local and state level (i.e., City Council and the WA Main Street program).
- Manage marketing efforts in all forms, and maintain a strong digital presence including social media, e-newsletters, and the DBA website.
Additional Duties (5%)
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Three to five years relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated experience managing contracts, budgets, and scopes of work.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to simultaneously support multiple committees and events throughout the year.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Grant writing experience.
- Strong and professional written and verbal communication skills (with colleagues, DBA members, local businesses, and community members and officials).
- Entrepreneurial, energetic, imaginative, well organized, and capable of functioning effectively in an independent situation.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the Main Street Approach®.
- Ability to work with a variety of individuals and organizations, and to work toward building consensus among people of diverse backgrounds.
- Comfortable with technology – Office 365 Suite, Google Drive, social media apps, Canva, and QuickBooks
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with a nonprofit board or commissions.
- Experience with downtown revitalization programs.
- Experience recruiting and managing volunteers.
- Professional and/or academic economic development experience.
- Marketing or advertising experience.
- Historic preservation knowledge.
- Storytelling and writing skills are a plus.
