Job Description:


The ESL Instructor at Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) teaches engaging and student-centered group ESL classes, which include job skills/workforce curriculum and center around the College and Career Readiness Standards. The ESL Instructor incorporates technology into classroom instruction, including administering a distance learning platform for hybrid learners. The ESL Instructor monitors students' goals and progress, and addresses learners’ needs using a variety of resources and approaches.

Required

Staff training is July 9-11, 2024. Registration is July 15-24 and staff are required to provide in-person support five days/week. Classes begin Monday, August 5, 2024. Below are potential teaching schedules:
 

  • EFL2-3 @ 12pm (Zoom), Conversation & Pronunciation EFL2-3 + floating support (on Zoom and at Alton St.)
  • EFL2-3 @ 9am & EFL4-5 @ 12pm (Greeley)
  • EFL 6 for College & Career @ 9am (in person in Aurora) + floating support or evening class (Zoom)
  • EFL6 for Fluency @ 6pm (Zoom) + floating support or daytime class (on Zoom and at Alton St.)
  • EFL0-1 @ 6pm (Zoom), Computer Basics @ 9am (in person at Alton St.) + floating support
     

Salary for this role. Starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.
 

  • $21.61 - $32.42 hourly
     

About The Team.

The Adult Education Program's mission at AMHR is to assist adult learners to become literate and obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency. The Adult Education program serves the diverse needs of our learners by providing the following classes: ESL, ABE/ASE, Citizenship, Computer, Career Exploration, Small Business, Culinary Pathways. Paraeducator Pathways, Family Literacy and Tutoring. We're looking for an ESL Instructor to assist clients in improving their English language skills, enabling them to better engage with their communities.

About You.

The ideal candidate will have passion and previous experience working with immigrant and refugee populations. This instructor should be comfortable with internet-based computer programs, providing highly engaging online classes to students. Candidates must have at least two (2) years of teaching experience with a focus on adult education. Previous teaching in multi-level / multi-cultural class setting is required. Having an Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA) before hire would be a plus, but is not required to get started in the role.

Responsibilities
 

  • Teach engaging and student-centered group ESL classes, which include job skills/workforce curriculum and College and Career Readiness Standards.
  • Integrate civics education into the curriculum.
  • Incorporate the use of technology into classroom instruction, including administering a distance learning platform for hybrid learners.
  • Use a variety of materials and teaching techniques.
  • Monitor students' goals and progress.
  • Address learners needs using a variety of resources and approaches.
  • Provide support in registration, testing and retention of ESL learners.
  • Perform record keeping responsibilities, including tracking and reporting attendance daily.
  • Accumulate professional development hours and attend staff meetings, trainings, etc. as requested by the Adult Education Director.
  • Schedule monthly tutoring classes with students & volunteers.
  • Maintain certification to administer the standardized assessment used by the program.
  • Effectively utilize volunteers in class.
  • Collaborate with and report to the Director to ensure the smooth functioning of the program.
  • Participate in monthly Professional Learning Communities.
  • Staff member will complete needed care coordination tasks for their assigned role.
     

Qualifications

Requirements:
 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA), or willingness to obtain within 3 years of hire.
  • Two (2) years teaching experience with emphasis on adult education.
  • Experience teaching multi-level and multi-cultural classes.
  • Experience developing and delivering contextualized ESL instruction and/or integrated education and training.
