The Role

Proofpoint is looking for a Writer to join our Security Awareness Training business unit. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for creating high-quality content in any form. You will enjoy learning about and distilling complex subjects into easy-to-understand video scripts, articles, newsletters, posters, presentations, and other interactive content. You will spend your days working with the content creation and strategy team to come up with creative concepts and ideas and then take the lead on developing content and working with the team to produce a final, engaging product.

What you bring to the team

• Highly comfortable working independently to write cybersecurity awareness and training content from scratch

• Experience researching and writing about unfamiliar topics, including technology topics

• Ability to transfer technical concepts into digestible content for a non-technical audience

• Comfort with outlining the content direction for others to execute on

• Experience writing for different audiences (B2B, consumer, executive, etc.)

• Experience writing different types/styles of content (long-form pieces, digital product content, technical materials, marketing communications, blogs, infographics, etc.)

• Strong understanding of short- and ultra-short-form pieces, with the ability to write/edit to word and time count restrictions without compromising the intent of the piece

• Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects of varying complexities

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and be comfortable with quickly ideating and creating content

• High level of comfort with copy editing and assisting other writers with their projects

• Willingness to mentor other team members to build their writing abilities

• Experience on a multi-disciplinary team and collaborating with creative teams from concepting through production

Musts

• Undergraduate degree, preferably in a related business or creative discipline (e.g., Marketing, Professional Writing, Journalism, Creative Writing, or English)

• Ability to work on East Coast time

• Familiarity with everyday cybersecurity behaviors that help to protect personal and corporate data, devices, and systems

• 5+ years of formal experience writing/editing content (or equivalent combination of post-graduate study and work experience)

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Keen attention to detail

• Proven ability to meet deadlines and follow production schedules, version control guidelines, and other editorial policies

• Ability to effectively work, communicate, and collaborate with a geographically dispersed team, primarily in a work-from-home environment

• Expert-level knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint

• Familiarity with AP Style

• High level of comfort working in a cloud-based environment (for example, using SharePoint or other cloud-based collaboration tools)

• Must submit samples with the application (website link, PDF, etc.)

• Must be willing to take a writing/editing test

Nice to have

• Information security/cybersecurity community experience: a blog, website, published papers, conference presentations

• Familiarity with scriptwriting or other creative writing

• Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS)

• Working knowledge of the full O365 suite of products (Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.)

• Prior experience working remotely
