Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two years of full-time experience working in universal design course development or support. Experience using instructional and assistive/adaptive technologies. Experience with designing, developing, and delivering instructional workshops and/or courses.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three years of full-time experience working in universal design course development or support. Experience with D2L Brightspace and/or other learning management systems. Experience in supporting neurodiverse students through course design, development, and facilitation. CPACC, ADS, QM, or other relevant certification.

 

Brief Description of Duties:

Reporting to the Center of Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) under the Office of the Provost, the Course Content Accessibility (CCA) Specialist will play a key role in the development of universal design course content that complies with SUNY and university policies pertaining to accessibility for Stony Brook University. The CCA Specialist will work with Student Accessibility Support leadership on accessibility initiatives within the organization, promoting the importance of inclusive design and conformance to accessibility standards. The successful incumbent will assist with addressing accessibility issues and ensure equitable access to educational resources.

 

Duties:

 

• Support Faculty and Staff:

 

• Collaborate with faculty, instructional designers, and content developers to support the implementation of UDL principles, including documents, presentations, multimedia, and online resources.

• Advise instructors and support staff on the selection, creation and use of effective, equitable and accessible strategies and technologies for teaching and learning.

• Support faculty to identify barriers and recommend solutions for conformance to accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG, Section 508).

• Develop training materials, workshops, documentation, etc.

• Develop training materials and workshops to educate instructors on accessibility solutions to provide instructional content in the most accessible formats.

• Follow the university adopted accessibility standards, develop and maintain documentation and resources for creating accessible course materials and integrating accessibility into instructional design processes.

• Engage in educational outreach providing workshops, seminars, and resources to raise awareness about accessibility concerns.

 

• Advocate for accessibility:

 

• Advocate for accessibility and inclusivity in educational settings by raising awareness, promoting the importance of inclusive design and compliance with accessibility standards.

• Promote best practices, and participate in UDL initiatives and accessibility committees.

• Act as a liaison to relevant campus departments to address accessibility issues and ensure equitable access to educational resources. Partner with but not limited to, Student Accessibility Support Center, Office of Equity & Access, and DoIt to address accessibility issues and ensure equitable access to educational resources.

• In collaboration with stakeholders, advocate for accessibility initiatives within the organization, promoting the importance of inclusive design and conformance to accessibility standards.

 

• Test for accessibility:

 

• Utilize assistive technologies, accessibility evaluation tools, while following best practices; test and validate the accessibility of course content across various platforms and devices.

• Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and regulations related to accessibility in education and recommend strategies for continuous improvement.

• Participate in professional networks, listservs, and research in the area of course content accessibility.

 

• Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

 

Special Notes:

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

 

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,087 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
