Communications and Marketing Coordinator

Job Location: Petaluma, California

Job Type: Temporary (6-8 weeks)

Pay Rate: $25-$29/hour

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm

Description of Position:

Are you experienced in communications and marketing coordination? Our client in Petaluma is seeking a detail-oriented and creative professional to support their marketing, communications, and outreach programs. You will be assisting with creating and implementing programs to increase public awareness of the District; develops marketing and promotional content for digital and print media; assists in maintaining and the District’s websites; provides technical staff assistance to the Communications and Marketing Manager; and performs related duties, as assigned.

This assignment will be about 6-8 weeks to cover for a leave of absence.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinates social media and digital programs and content to increase public awareness and promote the agency’s overall goals and mission.
  2. Develops a variety of marketing, educational, and promotional materials, including announcements, flyers, instructional documents, and related marketing and educational materials.
  3. Assists in developing social media content; monitors blogs and social media platforms for communicating District services, programs, and events; drafts responses for social media as needed; travels throughout the community and the District’s service area to collect images, videos, and related visual content.
  4. Coordinates assigned community outreach meetings and events; creates and coordinates all publications and advertisements in local media; participates and attends events as the District representative.
  5. Supports the Communications and Marketing Manager on marketing programs, outreach events, informational materials, advertisements, and displays.
  6. Prepares agendas and presentation materials for community outreach meetings, special events and public hearings as needed.
  7. Maintains and modifies agency websites as needed.
  8. Assists management staff with high visibility outreach events, including groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings; may attend community meetings.
  9. Assists in the scheduling, negotiating cost and purchasing of media space and time; coordinates purchasing and stocking various educational and promotional materials including banners and displays; orders and stocks marketing materials.
  10. Assists the Communications and Marketing Manager with a variety of administrative support activities as needed; compiles data and conducts basic research; summarizes information and prepares written reports and correspondence; and coordinates activities with other departments or external agencies.
  11. Prepares and operates video recording and agenda sync for public meetings.
  12. Attends and participates in meetings and community and promotional events, including on weekends and evenings.
  13. Maintains a variety of files and records.
  14. Adheres to all required safety procedures and programs.
  15. Performs related duties as assigned.

Description of Company:

You will be supporting a passenger rail service providing a safe, reliable and congestion-free transportation option for Marin and Sonoma counties. Office located in Petaluma, California.

Experience Required:

  1. Principles, methods and techniques of effective public communications, public relations, marketing communications, and community outreach.
  2. Social and digital media applications, programs, and platforms.
  3. A variety of graphic design and web-based applications.
  4. Techniques for preparing effective written and visual materials.
  5. Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors and District staff.
  6. The structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.
  7. Modern equipment and communication tools used for business functions and program, project and task coordination, including computers and software programs relevant to work performed.
  8. College degree in Communications or Marketing
  9. Previous experience working in a business setting using social media
