Job Description:

This position will support the finance and benefits team through reporting financial data for Covenant Benefits’ insurance and pension plans, accounts receivable support, and interacting with ministry constituents through customer service. This position will ensure financial records are accurate and provide courteous and timely communication to local ministry staff.

Requirements:

 


Essential Functions

  • Reconciling and posting pension contribution payments
  • Verify accuracy of benefits premium billing and ACH files, reconcile ACH errors and returns, and coordinate payment on overdue accounts
  • Creating journal entries and vouchers to record financial activity
  • Engage in electronic, phone, and in-person communication in a professional, congenial, and courteous manner
  • Process inquiries from constituency; respond and/or direct to the appropriate person according to need
  • Prepare reporting for actuaries, boards, and constituents, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned, by the Director of Covenant Benefits and/or Chief Financial Officer

Education and Experience

Required:

  • A bachelors degree or equivalent
  • Five (5) years in a support role, including experience in an office environment with bookkeeping/accounting emphasis
  • Proficient Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Windows applications
  • Personal engagement with a local Evangelical Covenant Church or similar faith-based organization (preferably minimum of 1-3 years)
  • HIPPA Certified

  • Comfortable working in an office and/or remote-working and customer-oriented environment
  • Excel in attention to detail with high level of accuracy in the preparation of documents, reports, and correspondence
  • Use critical thinking skills, applying logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to address challenges
  • Perform bookkeeping/accounting tasks. This includes the ability to independently ascertain the transactions needing to be entered, how to make the resulting entries, and to accomplish the task through to the point of completion.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Windows, and data management software
  • Be a team player and ensure caring and quality customer service
  • Detail oriented, strong organization, prioritization and time-management skills
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate effectively and responsively to constituents and their needs
  • Work well under pressure and able to accomplish multiple tasks, with conflicting priorities and timelines; ability to track and report progress on a wide range of tasks, simultaneously
  • Ability to respond to and deal with a range of ad hoc queries/requests
  • Ability to accept criticism and deal calmly and effectively with high stress situations
  • Ability to operate with discretion and confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to maintain flexibility in approach and adjust actions when appropriate
  • Engage in routine office tasks: answering telephone, processing correspondence, submitting voucher reimbursements, managing database systems, mailing, copying, filing, scanning, etc.
  • Self-starter, with the ability to work independently.

Environment Conditions

Able to work well in a professional office setting, but occasionally work in remote locales. Must be versatile and able to work for prolonged segments of sitting or standing. Must engage frequently with office tools and equipment, such as: computer, copier, phone, web-conferencing equipment, cell communication, printers, etc. Must be able to occasionally lift or move items, less than 35lbs.
