Job Description:

This position manages the Marketing & Communication visual media team production responsible for planning, creating, and distributing visual media content including photography and video. This individual must use a strategic approach to the reinforcement of the TWU brand identity and public image as they are perceived in print, social, and new media. The Assistant Director of Visual Media Production organizes the creative work of the visual media production team, fulfilling both internal and external requests. This position requires outstanding interpersonal skills, working well with all university clients. Work is performed under supervision of the Director of Creative Services, and performance is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. Performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with University policies and procedures.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

 

Reports to: Director, Creative Services

Supervises: Senior Video Producer, Visual Media Specialist, Student Assistants

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:

 

  • Manages visual media team to create premium branded-content on projects requiring videography, photography, drone usage, and production management.
  • Recruits, vets, hires and manages freelancers to support photography, videography, and archival needs to fulfill both on- and off-campus requirements.
  • Liaises with the Chancellor's Office, University Advancement, Student Life, Office of Admissions, and University Athletics to provide photography and videography support.
  • Communicates with Digital Content Managers to support publicity, communication, marketing, and accreditation efforts.
  • Curates and distributes photography and videography collections for independent production companies, journalists, and other media outlets.
  • Responsible for the research and acquisition of new equipment and technology pertaining to photography and video production.
  • Manages the creation and distribution of faculty and staff portraiture to maintain an accurate and professional image of the university.
  • Maintains photography archives and retrieves photos upon request; ensures best practices for photo releases and archiving of such.
  • Produces photos of high quality for university website, public relations initiatives, special events and news stories, studio portraits with backdrops, ads, collateral materials.
  • Edits photos as needed for website, social media channels, news events/releases, publications, and other Marketing and Communication projects.
  • Assists with the set up and operation of cameras, lighting units, microphones, and other equipment when needed.
  • Contributes to the team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities.
  • Works on location or in studio setting.
  • Maintains photo equipment and facilities necessary for photography.
  • Responsible for establishing job standards for subordinate staff and effectively evaluating staff under charge. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES


Performs other duties as requested.

Bachelor's degree required in photography or related field. Master's preferred.

Eight years of related experience. Higher education experience preferred.

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - The following are essential:

 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DSL cameras.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of operating and placing strobe lighting.
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Premiere.
  • Ability to work with team.
  • Ability to write photo captions.
  • Artistic composition skills.
  • Must be able to meet tight deadlines and quick turnarounds.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of use of cloud storage system for photography
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with a large number of university faculty, staff, students, and administration.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including related university software and email.

Additional skills preferred:

 

  • Working knowledge of multiple web design technologies, platforms, and browsers.
  • Working knowledge of web technologies such as CSS, HTML, and responsive design.
  • Working knowledge of social media applications and publishing.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard web design software.
  • Working knowledge of various operating systems and devices.
  • Familiarity with database-driven website construction and development tools.

Employee will be required to travel. Requires some after-hours and weekend work, and travel to Dallas and Houston campuses.
