We’re looking for a flexible Web Developer with talent, creativity, & integrity to join our team.

Ascent is a compact, agile, “behind-the-scenes” interactive agency based in Clinton, NJ, and we’re looking to strengthen our web development team with a part- or potentially full-time role.We need someone with a “bring it on” attitude, resourceful mindset, and ability to learn & adjust quickly. We specialize in working in close partnership with our creative clients, collaborating to create excellent results… often on tight budgets and tight deadlines.

You’ll work closely with our director of development on several concurrent projects, in a small, very positive team environment. We mostly work on-site in Clinton to maximize our collaboration, but you’d have the flexibility to work from home or have flex-hours as needed - as long as you’re productive, we’re happy. If you’re into super-cool offices, big-city vibes or looking fancy on social media, we’re not the ones for you. But if you enjoy tackling challenges, great teamwork, & building strong positive relationships, we want to hear from you.

It’s crucial for you to have great critical thinking & problem solving skills, a little creativity, and legit talent with both back-end PHP/MySQL development and front-end HTML/CSS/Javascript. Most of your work will be in WordPress using the Avada theme, but you’ll also get opportunities to do custom development in both WordPress & Drupal, custom API integrations, and marketing automation systems. You don’t need to be a designer, but you do need to have an eye for aesthetics & be able to execute good-looking pages based on an approved theme.

You’ll need to be comfortable with the unexpected, and a resourceful fast learner - we need the type of person who is a true problem solver who will “find a way” even if the solution isn’t obvious.

Your primary responsibilities will be:

1. Developing, configuring, & providing ongoing support for custom WordPress and Drupal websites
2. Interactive front-end development with HTML/Javascript/jQuery/CSS/AJAX
3. Custom back-end development in PHP/MySQL
4. Managing integrations with third-party APIs & developing API calls
5. Testing & troubleshooting - cross-browser, responsive, cross-device
6. Multi-tasking & switching gears quickly
7. Saying “Yes, I can do that,” even if maybe you really can’t, & then figuring it all out and being a hero.

3. You should know your way around cPanel and phpMyAdmin (or SSH of course).
