Description

The Center for Information Technology (CIT) Web Developer is responsible for writing and managing well-designed layout/user interfaces by using standard HTML/CSS practices, and integrating data from various back-end services and databases. The candidate will be responsible for working directly the University's faculty, directors, and end-users to support planning, scheduling, and running web development meetings; have the ability to understand and interpret the client's vision within Hampton University's given style guidelines; have basic knowledge of how to design for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance; have the ability to create responsive designs; ability to manipulate and optimize various image file types for the web. Web developer to be responsible for the coding, innovative design, and layout of our website. Web developer responsibilities include building our website from concept to completion form the bottom up, fashioning everything from the home page to site layout and function. Experience with Gutenberg, Elementor Pro, and/or Cold Fusion is desirable. **This is a grant-funded position.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for: Write well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices Create website layout/user interface by using standard HTML/CSS practices Integrate data from various back-end services and databases Gather and refine specifications and requirements based on technical needs Create and maintain software documentation Be responsible for maintaining, expanding, and scaling our site Stay plugged into emerging technologies/industry trends and apply them into operations and activities Cooperate with web designers to match visual design intent

Requirements

BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent. May substitute the equivalent in a combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience

Qualifications

The successful candidate must: Proven working experience in website development and maintenance Programming skills and in-depth knowledge of modern HTML/CSS Familiarity with at least one of the following programming languages or Tools: PHP, ASP.NET, Javascript or Ruby on Rails, WordPress, Elementor, Gutenberg. ColdFusion Familiarity with how web applications work including security, session management, and best development practices Adequate knowledge of relational database systems, Object-Oriented Programming, and mobile and web application development Hands-on experience with network diagnostics, network analytics tools Basic knowledge of Search Engine Optimization process Aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem-solving skills Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines and budgets with business acumen Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment, learn rapidly, and master diverse web technologies and techniques.
