Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is seeking a Web Developer.

About the Position:

The Web Developer plays a critical role in advancing Colorado Public Radio's digital strategy by designing, developing, maintaining, and optimizing the digital infrastructure that power CPR’s and Denverite’s websites and other digital products. Working as part of the Software Engineering team, you’ll write and review code to develop new features, fix bugs, and improve the performance and functionality of our digital products. You’ll partner with project stakeholders to understand requirements, communicate progress, and address emerging needs, helping ensure CPR’s digital products are reliable, effective and responsive to the needs of our audiences.

The new hire is expected to reside in the greater Denver metro area upon starting - this is not a remote position. We have a hybrid schedule that requires three days per week (Tues – Thurs) in the office.

About You:

You’re a thoughtful problem solver who enjoys digging into technical challenges, understanding what’s causing an issue, and finding practical solutions. You’re persistent when a problem is complex and know when to keep digging, try a new approach, or ask for help. You’re curious and open to new tools and technologies, including exploring how AI and emerging tools can make your work more effective. You’re able to manage multiple priorities, stay organized, and use your time well while keeping work moving forward. You listen closely to understand the needs of colleagues and stakeholders, and you approach your work with a customer focus, recognizing that the technology you build ultimately serves our audiences. You communicate clearly, kindly, collaborate well with others, and take ownership of your work from start to finish.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of web development experience, including building, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting web applications. This should include experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, PHP and developing for WordPress (building plugins and themes.)
  • Knowledge of web development principles, application architecture, content management systems, accessibility standards, responsive design, and the software development life cycle.
  • Experience with version control and developer platforms.
  • Experience with LLM tools in development, and the knowledge to vet their output.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to find the root cause of technical issues and turn business and user needs into practical solutions.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues,
  • Ability to create clear documentation to colleagues, adding comments to code and providing useful reviews of pull requests.
  • Commitment to inclusive design and creating digital products that are accessible, usable, and responsive for a variety of audiences.

Education Equivalency:

  • A fully relatable bachelor’s or master’s degree may replace some (not all) of the required years of experience needed to qualify for the position, but is not required for the role.

Even if you don’t meet every qualification listed, we’re interested in candidates who can bring unique skills, perspectives, and experiences to the role. At Colorado Public Radio, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, equitable and authentic workplace. If you're excited about this role, but your past experience doesn't perfectly align with every qualification in the job posting, we encourage you to apply as you may be the right candidate for this or other roles with us.

Benefits:

Colorado Public Radio is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package that reflects our culture of caring. Our employees have access to: 100 percent employer paid individual health, life, and disability coverage; an outstanding paid family medical leave policy plus paid holidays and a very generous sick, vacation, and personal time off plan; voluntary offerings such as vision and dental; a competitive retirement plan match with no waiting or vesting periods; flexible schedules; engagement and development opportunities; and a casual atmosphere.
