Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Web Designer for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences ( SEBS ). Reporting to the Senior Project Administrator Supervisor at the Office of Continuing Professional Education ( OCPE ) under the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station’s ( NJAES ) Rutgers Cooperative Extension ( RCE ), this position develops, manages, and maintains OCPE’s website to enhance the office’s online presence and facilitate online marketing strategies.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Plans, schedules, writes, designs, edits and/or coordinates marketing campaigns to increase awareness of, attendance at, and revenue generation for OCPE’s 300+ programs and services.
  • Completes work under general supervision, within established work parameters, with few direct instructions.
  • Performs professional work that requires knowledge of marketing principles and practices, and a good understanding, use, and application of related concepts, theories, principles, practices, and terminology.
  • The incumbent should be knowledgeable about and support OCPE’s programs as well as the mission, vision, role and goals of OCPE , NJAES , RCE and the university.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in marketing, public relations, communication, journalism, English, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates skill, knowledge, and understanding of marketing, public relations or promotional advertising.

Certifications/Licenses

  • This position occasionally requires travel to events, both on and off campus, and working outside of standard work hours. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of the university’s defensive driving course are required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Relevant experience in a marketing, public relations, or promotional advertising role, with demonstrated competence in website management or design; strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; attention to detail; effective customer service and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to quickly understand organizational needs and priorities; and computer literacy to include industry standard software and the ability to adapt to new website management and development tools and techniques.
  • Proficiency in customer relationship management software, email marketing software, content management software (WordPress preferred), SEO techniques and best practices, Microsoft Office Suite and an understanding of web coding (eg. HTML , CSS , JavaScript). Basic photo editing skills are also necessary.
  • Work effectively in a high-energy, fast-paced challenging environment and be able to handle multiple concurrent task and priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four years of additional experience. Good research skills and an interest in developing and applying intermediate to advanced web editing/coding skills preferred.
  • Familiarity with OCPE program areas (including environmental management, turfgrass management, landscaping, radon, food science, and public health) would allow this position to better understand customer needs and develop effective marketing campaigns.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of WordPress for website maintenance and development.
