The Vice President, Web provides strategic vision, leadership, and direct managerial oversight for Carnegie’s Web division, driving growth, innovation, and performance across web strategy, development, design, content, and emerging digital technologies.

This role sets the long-term vision for the organization’s web ecosystem while ensuring operational excellence, financial performance, and measurable impact for clients. The VP partners cross-functionally to align web initiatives with broader business objectives and market opportunities.

Carnegie’s Web team partners with colleges and universities to plan, design, build, and continuously improve high-performing digital experiences that serve as the foundation of their marketing and communications ecosystem. We bring together strategy, user experience, design systems, scalable front-end development, CMS implementations, and content optimization to support large, complex institutional websites. Our work helps institutions attract, engage, and convert prospective students, strengthen and express their brand, and deliver measurable performance across digital channels, directly advancing Carnegie’s broader focus on enrollment growth, marketing effectiveness, and long-term institutional success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  1. Define and execute the long-term vision and strategy for the Web division
  2. Align web strategy with organizational growth priorities, web evolution, and client needs
  3. Evolve our position as an industry leader in web innovation and digital experience
  4. Identify test, and incorporate emerging technologies and trends to maintain a competitive advantage
  5. Collaborate with Business Development to shape new offerings and expand market presence
  6. Provide strategic guidance on web ecosystems, digital transformation, and performance optimization in service to both brand-building and digital marketing

Operational Excellence

  1. Oversee delivery quality, revenue throughput, and resource planning across strategy, development, design, and content teams
  2. Collaborate with Digital Media team to align web content with AI Search strategy and integrate analytics insights that inform performance and continuous improvement
  3. Establish clear performance metrics and accountability structures for web team
  4. Ensure efficient workflows and strong collaboration across strategy, development, design, and content teams
  5. Optimize vendor, subcontractor, and platform partnerships

Financial Oversight

  1. Maintain accountability for division-level P&L performance
  2. Partner with Finance to develop and monitor budgets and revenue forecasts
  3. Ensure appropriate revenue recognition and financial reporting processes are in place

Talent & Culture

  1. Directly manage and develop senior leaders within the Web division, providing clear direction, accountability, and support
  2. Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing talent
  3. Build a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
  4. Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
  5. Develop succession plans and leadership pipelines to support long-term growth

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  1. Strong leadership skills and ability to set a strategic vision for client and company web presence, aligning web initiatives with business goals and leading cross-functional teams
  2. Deep expertise in building and scaling complex websites, including design systems, front-end development, and CMS implementations
  3. Strong understanding of user-centered design, accessibility standards, and responsive design best practices, with the ability to lead teams in delivering high-performing web experiences
  4. Strong technical knowledge of modern front-end and back-end development practices, and leading content management systems
  5. Experience integrating websites with key enterprise systems such as CRMs, SISs, calendaring platforms, intranets, and portals
  6. Strong understanding of content strategy, including information architecture, writing for the web, SEO and AEO, and governance models
  7. Adept understanding of digital marketing strategies and the role of the website in driving traffic, engagement, and conversion
  8. Ability to collaborate with marketing teams to integrate digital strategies into web experiences and improve performance outcomes
  9. Proficiency in web analytics and data analysis, with the ability to translate performance metrics and user behavior into actionable insights
  10. Ability to optimize website performance and user experience through continuous, data-driven improvement
  11. Forward-thinking mindset with the ability to identify and apply emerging technologies, including AI and evolving search behaviors
  12. Effective communication and time management skills in a remote work environment, with the ability to navigate and adopt multiple technology platforms
  13. Must be able to work at a computer for prolonged periods

Credentials and Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent life/work experience
  2. 15+ years of senior leadership experience in web strategy, development, or digital experience
  3. Experience in employing personalization on websites
  4. Deep expertise in modern web architecture, UX/UI, content strategy, SEO, and analytics
  5. Proven leadership of complex website redesigns, platform migrations, and digital transformations
  6. Strong knowledge of CMS platforms, development principles, accessibility standards, and performance optimization
  7. Experience integrating web strategy with broader digital marketing and conversion initiatives
  8. Successful leadership of multidisciplinary teams in a professional services or agency environment serving external clients
  9. Demonstrated financial experience managing business unit performance
  10. Higher education experience preferred but not required
