The Writer role at Young African Leaders in Sport is a full-time, remote position focused on producing clear, engaging content that supports the organization’s advocacy and storytelling goals. On a day-to-day basis, the Writer will research topics related to African sport leadership and governance, conduct interviews where needed, and draft articles, blog posts, opinion pieces, and reports for digital channels. The Writer will collaborate with program and communications teams to develop content plans, adapt messages for different platforms, and ensure consistency with YALS’ mission and voice. Responsibilities include revising and editing drafts based on feedback, ensuring factual accuracy and clarity, and meeting agreed deadlines. The Writer will also help curate social and web content, contribute to newsletters and campaign materials, and maintain organized archives of written work.

Qualifications

1. Strong writing, storytelling, and editing abilities, with a track record of producing clear and compelling content for diverse audiences.
2. Demonstrated research skills, including sourcing credible information, synthesizing complex topics, and translating insights into accessible narratives.
3. Experience creating digital content for websites, blogs, newsletters, or social media, ideally in advocacy, sport, youth development, or related fields.
4. Excellent command of written English, strong attention to detail, and the ability to self-edit for grammar, tone, and structure.
5. Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple deadlines, and collaborate effectively with geographically dispersed teams.
6. Familiarity with African sport ecosystems, youth leadership, or governance issues is highly desirable.
7. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Social Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
8. Comfort using basic digital collaboration tools (e.g., shared documents, project management platforms, email) and willingness to learn new systems as needed.
