*** Kordspace LLC is assisting in recruiting for this contracting position at WealthEnV ***

About the Role

Financity by WealthEnV is seeking a Gameplay Designer to help shape the next phase of our educational game experience. This role focuses on refining gameplay systems, improving quest and world design, and balancing fun, immersion, and educational outcomes for a student-focused audience.

The Gameplay Designer will review existing game assets, product goals, and business requirements, then translate those into clear gameplay specifications and design direction for cross-functional collaboration with Unreal Engine 5 development, UX/UI design, and playtesting teams.

This is a hands-on design guidance and worldbuilding role suited for someone who can bring structure to complex ideas, improve player-facing systems, and help ensure the game experience is both engaging and educational.

Responsibilities

  1. Review existing game assets, mechanics, and product context to understand the current state of Financity.
  2. Translate business and educational requirements into actionable gameplay design recommendations.
  3. Create and refine gameplay specification documents for implementation in collaboration with the Unreal Engine 5 developer and UX/UI designer.
  4. Help improve the connection between the course web interface and the in-game quest publishing system, where teachers act as quest designers.
  5. Refine gameplay loops, ambient systems, and interactive world mechanics so they meaningfully support quest content and educational goals.
  6. Improve the design of NPCs, lore, character backgrounds, dialogue tone, and persona consistency across the game world.
  7. Support gameplay balancing to ensure systems remain fun, intuitive, and rewarding.
  8. Collaborate with UX/UI designers and playtesters to identify friction points, improve usability, and strengthen player engagement.
  9. Help shape future roadmap items by identifying design opportunities, missing systems, and high-value gameplay improvements.
  10. Communicate clearly with leadership and team members, turning business criteria and design problems into practical game design solutions.

Ideal Candidate

You are a thoughtful gameplay designer with experience shipping successful games and working across teams to turn high-level goals into strong player experiences. You understand how to balance structured systems with creativity, and you can help build a world that feels alive, coherent, and rewarding.

You should be comfortable contributing to both systems design and worldbuilding.

Required Qualifications

  1. 3+ years of professional experience in gameplay design, systems design, level design, quest design, or a closely related game design role.
  2. You have served as a Lead Designer or equivalent senior design contributor on at least one shipped game project.
  3. At least one project you worked on has positive or mostly positive Steam reviews with 500+ reviews.
  4. At least one project you worked on has been played by 5,000+ players, verifiable through SteamDB or comparable public performance data.
  5. You have experience working on a multiplayer game.
  6. You can demonstrate shipped work and clearly explain your contribution to gameplay design, systems design, progression design, or player experience.
  7. Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce organized design documentation, gameplay specifications, and implementation guidance.
  8. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including developers, UI/UX designers, QA, and playtesters.
  9. Ability to analyze player experience and make practical design recommendations based on product goals, constraints, and feedback.
  10. Comfortable working in an iterative production environment with changing priorities and evolving feature scope.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with the education sector or educational products.
  2. Experience designing for middle school to high school audiences.
  3. Familiarity with Unreal Engine for rapid iteration and testing.
  4. Experience working with Blueprints.
  5. Strong worldbuilding, narrative support, and NPC/dialogue design instincts.
  6. Experience with live balancing, progression systems, sandbox systems, or social gameplay loops.
  7. Experience helping bridge design intent into implementation with engineering teams.

Engagement Details

  1. Initial contract term is 2 months.
  2. Expected commitment is 30 hours per week.
  3. Compensation is $4,000 per month.
  4. This role involves medium to light ongoing design support, documentation, worldbuilding refinement, and collaboration across product, design, and development.
  5. Contractor must be able to work independently, manage deliverables responsibly, and participate in scheduled team communications.
  6. Availability for recurring check-ins, design reviews, and collaborative working sessions is expected.

What Success Looks Like

  1. Clear, actionable gameplay specs that improve team alignment.
  2. Better integration between teacher-created course content and in-game quest mechanics.
  3. Stronger ambient systems and gameplay loops that make the world feel more alive and purposeful.
  4. Improved NPCs, lore, and dialogue consistency.
  5. Better gameplay balance between education, engagement, and fun.
  6. Useful design recommendations that can be implemented efficiently by UX and Unreal development teams.
