Job Description:

We are seeking a talented Travel Content Writer to craft engaging and accessible travel stories for digital platforms. This role involves producing content on diverse travel topics like domestic travel, budget travel, and intergenerational trips, while collaborating with editors to create compelling storytelling approaches. You’ll use tools like Google Trends and Adobe Analytics to identify trending topics and monitor performance, ensuring content aligns with SEO best practices. Partnering with cross-functional teams, you’ll optimize content for publication and promotion, integrate visuals, and refine content for maximum impact and discoverability. If you have a passion for travel and a knack for digital storytelling, this is the role for you.

  1. Report, write, revise, and maintain impactful travel content for digital platforms in accessible, straightforward language.
  2. Produce content on topics such as domestic travel, bucket-list travel, travel on a budget, intergenerational travel, transportation news and travel first person/commentary.
  3. Collaborate with the Executive Editor, Features and Travel editor to develop creative approaches for storytelling.
  4. Utilize tools such as Google Trends, Adobe Analytics and Tableau to find trending topics and story ideas and monitor topic performance and trends.
  5. Collaborate with colleagues across platforms including print publications, video, social and newsletters to ensure coordination on travel content and promotion of travel content.
  6. Partner with editorial and copy teams to refine content, address gaps, and optimize online coverage.
  7. Utilize the Content Production System (CPS) and related tools to prepare stories for publication efficiently.
  8. Provide thorough annotations and source documentation to streamline the fact-checking process.
  9. Partner with digital producers to publish stories and digital designers to create engaging visuals, including illustrations and Q&A graphics.
  10. Identify and integrate relevant, reputable statistics into graphics like charts, maps, and tables.
  11. Collaborate with the Search Engine Optimization (SEO) team to shape content that maximizes discoverability and organic search performance.
  12. Maintain familiarity with AARP’s existing travel content inventory to enhance inline linking and avoid topic duplication.
  13. Develop SEO-friendly headlines and manage content schedules and inventories effectively.

Must have:

  1. Significant travel writing experience for major digital or print publications
  2. Significant media contacts within the travel industry
  3. Experience writing features and breaking news content
