Under the direction of the Chief, Office of Traffic Safety, (a Senior Transportation Engineer), employee performs traffic investigations and prepares written responses to requests for investigation of safety or operational issues.

Perform traffic investigations on all fatals and serious injuries, Table C reports(Wet and Dry) reports and monitoring program reports, calculate Safety Index, recommend corrective measures and improvements. Prepare written and/or verbal responses to requests for investigation of safety or operational issues. Review, monitor, and track investigations of all fatal and serious injury crashes on District 3 State Highway Systems and ensures implementation of proven safety countermeasures and enhancements that result in a more forgiving roadway and roadside to achieve the vision of zero deaths and serious injuries.

Working Conditions

Position located in Marysville, Yuba County.

While at their base of operation, employee will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Employee may also be required to travel and work outdoors and may be exposed to traffic, dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and/or extreme heat or cold.

In addition, to the Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program, an incumbent may be required to go on loan to another project delivery function when there are temporary or peak staffing needs in those areas.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

• This position(s) may require medical and/or audio clearance prior to being hired.

• Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
