GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This position is responsible for day-to-day administration and support of the voice and communications infrastructures at Framingham State University, including the 3CX telephone system and voice over IP environment, unified messaging, mobility requirements and local and long-distance circuits. It installs, tests and repairs telecommunications and information technology related hardware, software and circuits and provides routine maintenance, troubleshooting and monitoring of both voice and data networking components. It also has primary responsibility for video conferencing platforms, including Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The role works with individuals and departments at the University to provide analysis and support of their telephone and messaging needs. This position is a key contributor and collaborates with others within and outside of the division of Information Technology Services.

EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides day-to-day support of Framingham State's 3CX PBX and messaging platform, unified communications systems and video conferencing tools.
  • Responsible for maintaining local and long-distance connectivity including but not limited to, SIP trunks, analog lines, and fiber optic connections.
  • Manages user account administration and access levels to telephony systems in accordance with university guidelines and industry best practice standards.
  • Oversees video conferencing and collaboration tools, including Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs telephony devices and associated connectivity issues.
  • Oversees the University's voice, data and fiberoptic cabling infrastructure.
  • Implements software and firmware upgrades, as required.
  • Installs and manages emergency telephones locations across campus.
  • Contributes to project planning, documentation and implementation to include proposals, updates and status reporting.
  • Participates in development and documentation of overall policies and procedures related to the University telecommunications and data networks.
  • Inventories and documents systems and software within functional area of responsibility.
  • Coordinates and interacts with outside vendors and service providers, as required.
  • Provides training and support to Student Technicians, as needed.
  • Contributes to Information Technology Services Management (ITSM) at the University by responding to reported incidents, fulfilling requests, and contributing to the knowledgebase.
  • Serves assigned Process Manager or Service Owner for designated items listed within the IT service catalog.

  • Assumes additional responsibilities as may be determined by the Manager of Network Services or Director of Infrastructure and Operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

All of the work associated with the duties and responsibilities for this position is ordinarily performed at Framingham State's main campus, and may be done periodically from a remote location consistent with the conditional provisions specified within University's Telework Guidelines and in accordance with an approved Telework Agreement.



Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in an IT/Telecom environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of telephony and network architecture of WAN and LAN, PBX functionality and voice over IP technologies.
  • In-depth understanding of voice messaging solutions, including auto-attendant, vectoring, and unified messaging.
  • Experience with video conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • General understanding of data network communications including routers and network switch devices, TCP/IP and network protocols.
  • Understanding of structured cabling including voice, data and fiber optics.
  • Availability to perform work during off-hours, including emergency call-ins and night/weekend

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in computer related field.
  • Familiarity 3CX telephony systems and solutions.
  • Experience with video conferencing tools, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Telecommunications certifications are highly desired.
  • Higher Education experience is preferred.



Additional Information:

This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefits-eligible position in the Association of Professional Administrators (APA) bargaining unit with a title of Staff Assistant. The salary range is $57,000-66,000.
