Technical Writer Coast Guard

Location: Remote


Ellumen, named a Top Workplace by the Washington Post, is a dynamic small business headquartered in Silver Spring, MD. We specialize in providing a wide range of information technology and ancillary services to both government and commercial clients. Our team is currently seeking a remote Technical Writer to join us in supporting the Coast Guard Electronic Health Records Program.

As a Technical Writer at Ellumen, you will play a key role in supporting our client by creating clear, concise, and well-organized technical documentation. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including technical and end-user resources, to ensure accurate and effective communication of complex information. This role requires an individual who is adaptable, has strong problem-solving abilities, and is experienced in managing and producing technical content in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.


U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain Coast Guard Clearance is required (Active clearance is preferred).


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Documentation Revision & Review:
  2. Revise and review documentation that includes technical and medical terminology to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner
  3. Review product artifacts for accuracy, format, spelling, and other quality control checks.
  4. Review and provide feedback on management reports, presentations, program documentation, and other program-related documents
  5. Ensure documentation is aligned with available templates and formatting requirements
  6. Collaboration & Communication:
  7. Collaborate with internal and external teams to create and update content.
  8. Attend and provide minutes for key meetings/calls
  9. Participate in project meetings and contribute to project management practices
  10. Content Organization & Repository Management:
  11. Organize and review program artifact repositories (e.g., SharePoint, Teams) for content accuracy, format, usability, and accessibility
  12. Ensure consistent formatting and structure across all documentation

Qualifications:

  1. Education & Experience:
  2. Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  3. 3-5 years of experience in leading IT project technical writing, specifically in the federal sector.
  4. Skills & Competencies:
  5. Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels.
  6. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  8. Ability to create diagrams, workflows, and organizational charts using Visio or similar software.
  9. Proficiency in PowerBI with experience building PowerBI dashboards
  10. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple responsibilities without frequent oversight.
  11. Technical Knowledge:
  12. Experience with MHS Genesis or similar healthcare software and military background preferred.
  13. Ability to document and understand complex medical workflows and software/hardware implementation concepts.
  14. Other Requirements:
  15. U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain Coast Guard Clearance is required (Active clearance is preferred).
