Thorlabs, a leading manufacturer of equipment for the photonics industry, is currently seeking applications from highly motivated individuals with proven aptitude for technical video content development and a strong understanding of Thorlabs’ products.

The Technical Content Strategist will develop engaging, relevant, technically accurate, and brand-appropriate digital content for our audiences across our ecommerce site, social media and other platforms. They will provide technical guidance and review of marketing materials, including ads, tradeshow collateral, videos, and social media posts.

The successful candidate should be highly familiar with a wide range of photonics equipment and be able to see linkages between Thorlabs’ product lines. In addition to extensive laboratory experience, the role requires a highly detail-oriented individual with the ability to manage concurrently multiple projects in different stages of completeness.

In addition to video content experience, the candidate should possess strong writing and presentation skills in English, excellent project management skills, the ability to work under tight time constraints, and a desire to learn about Thorlabs’ technologies. They will work closely with in-house graphic artists and videographers to create marketing collateral; hence, this position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

• Partners with applications engineers, design engineers, and videographers/animation artists to create, produce, and develop both short- and long-format tutorial and manufacturing videos, from brainstorming through final delivery, that are technically accurate and align with Thorlabs’ brand standards.
• Provides guidance, as needed, both during the video shoot and throughout the editing process to ensure the information presented by an application or design engineer is technically accurate and presented in a way that engages the viewer.
• Reviews newly released products with an eye towards partnering with animation artists to develop technically accurate animations in instances where an animation of how the item works adds significant value to the presentation.
• Leverages his or her in-depth knowledge of photonics equipment and applications to propose topics, animations, or application images that would be of interest to customers and best communicated via a video or image.
• Attends tradeshow planning meetings and provides recommendations for products to take to shows.
• Works with science writers and engineers to ensure content is technically accurate.
• Stays up to date with the latest best practices and technologies for digital media.
• Structures and organizes the job in close cooperation with business units, both domestically and abroad.
• Additional responsibilities may include participating in and leading marketing projects.
• Assists with other marketing projects as necessary.

Qualifications

Experience:

Required: Technical background or prior knowledge of Thorlabs products
Desired: Video Storyboarding or Video Content Creation

Education:

An advanced degree in Physics, Optics, Lasers, Engineering, or a closely related field or a bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years of applicable work experience.
