Strategic Digital Authority & Content Lead

(Proficy / Industrial Software Focus)

Rain Engineering helps manufacturers get real, measurable results from their industrial software investments. We work with manufacturing operations and engineering leaders who are serious about performance, not buzzwords.

We’re looking for a senior digital strategist whose sole focus is to make Rain Engineering the obvious, trusted choice in our niche across search engines and emerging AI / generative tools.

This isn’t a generic “SEO specialist” role. It’s a build-and-own-the-strategy position for someone who understands how technical SEO, content, digital PR, and authority signals all work together in a complex B2B space.

What You’ll Own

You’ll be responsible for designing and executing a strategy that ensures Rain Engineering shows up consistently and credibly when manufacturers and industry influencers are:

  1. Researching industrial software and integration partners
  2. Evaluating implementation and integration expertise
  3. Asking technical and strategic questions related to our domain

In practice, that means you will:

Strategy and Research

  1. Own a comprehensive search and content strategy for highly specific industrial and software-related queries
  2. Map topical authority for our space and build a plan to dominate key topics over time
  3. Research how different search engines and generative tools surface expert sources and design content and structure to align with that behavior

Content and Authority Building

  1. Create or direct the creation of high-signal assets: articles, guides, case-study narratives, comparison content, and industrial thought leadership
  2. Coordinate with internal subject matter experts to turn real project experience into credible, publishable content
  3. Develop digital PR and content placement opportunities with research firms, media, analysts, and relevant communities (not competitors)

Technical and On-Site Optimization

  1. Own on-site SEO foundations: architecture, internal linking, structured data, entity optimization, and content hubs
  2. Continuously improve how our expertise is represented on the site so that both search engines and AI systems can clearly understand who we are, what we do, and who we serve
  3. Partner with our web development resources to implement your recommendations

Off-Site Signals and Reputation

  1. Build and maintain a high-quality backlink profile from non-competitive, reputable industry and research sources
  2. Identify and pursue opportunities where our brand, founders, and experts can be referenced, quoted, or featured
  3. Track and improve brand mentions and entity consistency across the web

Measurement and Continuous Improvement

  1. Define the metrics that matter (beyond “traffic”): qualified discovery, influence on pipeline, prominence for strategic queries, and branded search growth
  2. Report clearly to leadership on what’s working, what’s not, and where we should invest next
  3. Run disciplined experiments and iterate based on results

What Success Looks Like

After 12–18 months in this role, you’ll have:

  1. Built a clear, documented strategy for digital authority in our category
  2. Established Rain Engineering as a consistently visible and trusted expert source for highly specific industrial / software queries
  3. Created durable content and reputation assets that continue to compound over time
  4. Demonstrated a direct connection between your work and increased inbound interest, opportunities, and qualified conversations

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone who:

  1. Has 5–10+ years in SEO / content / authority-building roles in B2B, ideally with complex or technical offerings
  2. Understands entity-based SEO, topical authority, and how AI / generative tools source and synthesize information
  3. Has led or owned strategy before, not just executed tasks from someone else’s playbook
  4. Can talk comfortably with technical experts and translate complex ideas into clear, structured content plans
  5. Is comfortable in a boutique, founder-led company where results matter more than job titles
  6. Enjoys working from hypothesis to execution: research, plan, test, refine

Bonus if you have:

  1. Experience in industrial software, manufacturing, or integration services
  2. Hands-on familiarity with schema, knowledge graph concepts, and how to structure data for machines
  3. A track record of building niche authority, not just generic lead-gen SEO

How We’ll Select and Shortlist

We want to see how you think, not just where you’ve worked.

Shortlisted candidates will be paid to complete a focused strategic exercise. It’ll be a realistic, bounded assignment that asks you to:

  1. Outline how you’d approach building digital authority in a specialized B2B niche
  2. Identify the signals and assets you’d prioritize in the first 6–12 months
  3. Show how you’d adapt strategy for both traditional search and emerging AI / generative tools

We’re not looking for free labor. We’re looking for how you frame the problem, set priorities, and connect strategy to business outcomes.
