The anticipated hiring range for this position is $70,000 to $75,000. Hiring offers will be determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. POSITION SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant provides high-level accounting expertise and is responsible for maintaining and monitoring general ledger activities as well as reconciling general ledger accounts. The Staff Accountant is also responsible for assisting in providing analysis of campus financial operations and ensuring that financial transactions are recorded timely, accurately and in accordance with U.S. GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares monthly/year-end journal entries while maintaining proper supporting documentation, providing a solid audit trail.
  • Reconciles various asset/liability accounts monthly.
  • Monitors the processing of accounts payable invoices and statements for timeliness, accuracy and missing or outstanding invoices and credit memos.
  • Manages all aspects of accounts receivable activities, including but not limited to creating invoices, entering invoices, credit card charges and debit/credit memos in Oracle, applying payments, identifying, and resolving past due accounts receivable and clearing unapplied receipts.
  • Manages daily cash/banking activities for all public operation units (Restaurants, Stores, and Events).
  • Reviews Micros reports to ensure that department charges, house charges and Continuing Education (CE) charges have appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Addresses all inquiries regarding credit card chargebacks including research and supporting documentation.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to students and other department employees.
  • Investigates, resolves, and documents questions generated by departments.
  • Assists Senior Accounting Manager in various projects including the annual budgeting process and monthly/annual financial analysis.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct experience in an accounting position.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three (3) or more years of direct experience in an accounting position.
  • Experience in automated financial systems, preferably Oracle.
  • Experience in automated purchasing/inventory systems, preferably EATEC.
  • Experience in monthly financial analysis.
  • Experience in account reconciliation.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Ability to reconcile general ledger accounts that may include complex transactions.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills required. Must have demonstrated ability in organizational, time management, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with MS Office suite products, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment and maintain collaborative relationships with all members of the team.
  • Work requires continual attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and conceptual skills.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work at both California Campus locations, based on business needs.
  • Must be available to work nights and weekends as required due to business needs.
  • Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods.
