About The Role

We are seeking a skilled WordPress Software Engineer to join our backend team supporting digital websites, OTT platforms, and applications for our news operations. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the digital infrastructure that delivers timely and reliable content across multiple platforms. Your primary focus will be on supporting and developing WordPress-based websites, creating robust APIs, and integrating various external services to ensure seamless content delivery. Working in a fast-paced news environment, you will be expected to handle urgent tasks efficiently, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to innovative AI-driven initiatives. Your expertise in PHP, cloud computing, and API development will be vital in supporting our digital assets and ensuring their optimal performance. Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline (preferred)
2. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in web development and related technologies
3. Proficiency in WordPress, PHP, and AWS services including Lambda, SQS, SNS, S3, and EC2
4. Experience building and customizing WordPress plugins, themes, templates, and multisite/multilingual websites
5. Strong understanding of server-side technologies and design patterns
6. Experience with version control systems such as GitHub
7. Knowledge of CMS environments, preferably in news publishing or similar fast-paced industries
8. Experience extending WordPress Gutenberg editor using React and modern JavaScript
9. Ability to develop scalable RESTful APIs and optimize their performance
10. Familiarity with AI technologies and their application in workflows and feature development
11. Experience with programming languages such as Python and SQL
12. Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions
13. Understanding of continuous integration and deployment practices
14. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate
15. Excellent communication and teamwork skills
16. Must be 18 years or older and have unrestricted work authorization in the United States

Responsibilities

1. Support and enhance digital properties of NBCUniversal’s owned television stations using WordPress, PHP, and AWS services
2. Develop, deploy, and maintain multiple websites, ensuring high performance and reliability
3. Create and maintain APIs for internal and external consumption, integrating with various external APIs and services
4. Contribute to AI-driven initiatives by building features powered by AI tools and integrating AI services to automate workflows
5. Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions that meet business needs
6. Analyze technical problems and develop innovative solutions involving technology, methodology, and tools
7. Ensure the quality, security, and timeliness of deliverables while providing guidance to team members
8. Refine and improve development processes to enhance productivity and product quality
9. Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to maintain high standards
