Koniag Services, Inc. (KSI), a Koniag Government Service Company, is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to support our government customer. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust. This position is a remote opportunity.

The Software Engineer will formulate and define specifications for complex operating software programming applications and modify/maintain existing applications using engineering releases and utilities from manufacturers. The Software Engineer will design and develop software applications. This role involves the scalability, security, and performance of enterprise web applications, API integrations, data workflows, and LMS infrastructure, working across both server-side and client-side environments, designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting programs.

This role is critical in developing, maintaining, and enhancing complex software systems for our federal government clients.

Key responsibilities include:

1. Performing coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting throughout the application development process.
2. Deploying computationally efficient cloud-based technologies to maximize pipeline efficiency.
3. Developing, testing, deploying, and supporting web interface applications for our innovative products.
4. Ensuring software standards are met.
5. Eliciting, deriving, and documenting software and/or system requirements to meet internal or external customer specifications.
6. Developing and maintaining applications related to overall operating systems, sophisticated file maintenance routines, large telecommunications networks, computer accounting, and advanced mathematical/scientific software packages
7. Working at a high technical level across all phases of software systems programming applications
8. Evaluating new and existing software products for potential implementation
9. Assisting other systems programmers in effectively utilizing technical software
10. Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify requirements and develop solutions
11. Creating detailed technical documentation for all developed systems
12. Troubleshooting and resolving complex software issues
13. Participating in code reviews to ensure quality and adherence to standards
14. Staying current with emerging technologies and methodologies

Education and Experience:Required:

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field
2. 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
3. Experience with complex operating systems and application development
4. Track record of successful software development projects, systems programming, application development, and technical evaluation of software products.

Required Skills and Competencies:

1. Advanced proficiency in server-side programming languages (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java, PHP) and frameworks.
2. Strong experience with RESTful API design, development, and integration.
3. Experience designing and implementing complex software systems
4. Knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc.)
5. Proficient in front-end technologies (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, modern JS frameworks) to enable effective full stack development.
6. Experience with software testing methodologies and debugging techniques
7. Ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems
8. Familiarity with DevOps practices, version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud environments (AWS or similar).
9. Strong collaboration, communication, and documentation skills.
10. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
11. Solid understanding of information security, secure coding practices, and federal compliance standards.
12. Understanding of software security principles and best practices
13. Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

Desired Skills and Competencies:

1. Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
2. Experience with Moodle or other Learning Management Systems (LMS).
3. Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools
4. Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
5. Database design and optimization skills
6. Experience with Big Data technologies
7. Familiarity with data analytics, reporting, or business intelligence tools.
8. Experience with mobile application development
9. Certifications relevant to software engineering, Agile Scrum or Kanban; Agile certifications are a plus.
