This opportunity is for a senior-level backend engineer focused on building and scaling high-performance data infrastructure. You will design and operate distributed systems that power large-scale applications, handling millions of queries per second across modern bare-metal environments.

This role requires deep expertise in Go and large-scale backend systems. You will contribute to mission-critical services that operate across dense, high-capacity infrastructure, ensuring performance, reliability, and scalability at extreme scale.

Work Arrangement: Fully Remote (U.S.-based). Overlap with Pacific Time required; proximity to Seattle is a plus.

What You’ll Do

1. Scale production Go services to support hundreds of millions of users
2. Design and build mission-critical data infrastructure powering API traffic
3. Architect systems capable of operating across tens of terabytes of RAM and thousands of CPU cores
4. Develop and maintain distributed backend services handling high query throughput
5. Optimize performance across storage layers, including high-capacity NVMe systems
6. Collaborate with engineers to improve reliability, observability, and system resilience
7. Participate in design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions
8. Continuously evaluate and improve infrastructure scalability and efficiency

Qualifications

1. Strong foundational programming and software engineering skills
2. Extensive professional experience with Go (5+ years preferred)
3. Experience building and operating scalable backend systems handling high throughput (1M+ operations per second)
4. Deep understanding of operating systems, networking, and storage systems
5. Significant experience with relational databases such as Postgres, MySQL, or SQLite
6. Experience with distributed data stores such as Cassandra, Scylla, Redis, or ClickHouse
7. Experience working with search systems such as Elasticsearch
8. Ability to thrive in a small, fast-moving engineering team
9. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently

Preferred Experience

1. Experience building infrastructure for large-scale social or consumer applications
2. Experience working in high-density bare-metal environments
3. Familiarity with protocol-driven or federated systems architectures

Pay: $170,000 - $230,000 per year. Equity may be included as part of total compensation.
