GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer with a passion for building high performance, low-latency platforms, and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation and platform engineering domain modernization as we redefine experiences for our customers. You will be instrumental in driving the adoption and expansion of our object storage, ensuring its stability, security, and performance across our hybrid cloud environment for DataLakes/AI/ML Workloads.

Position Description

Our Senior Engineer works with our Distinguished Engineer and Staff Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve, and enhance existing systems as well as identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in the Open-Source Object Storage platform domain.

Position Responsibilities

As a Senior Engineer, you will:

1. Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve our toughest problems
2. Develop and execute technical software development strategy for the Platform Engineering domain
3. Own accountability for the quality, usability & performance of the solutions
4. Deep hands-on experience in complex system design and storage and data pipeline and architectures, scale and performance, tuning, with good knowledge on Docker and Kubernetes
5. Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams
6. Take on-call and operational support

Qualifications:

1. Fluent in at least two OOP languages such as Go (preferred) or C++, Java, Python, etc.
2. Good knowledge of two of the following languages: C, PHP, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, shell script, SQL, etc.
3. Understanding of open-source object storage and databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc., familiar with CEPH, MinIO, No-SQL databases like Cassandra, MongoDB, Elasticsearch
4. Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production
5. Experience with continuous delivery (CI/CD) and infrastructure as code
6. In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms
7. Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches
8. Ability to excel in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
9. Willing to work on both fast development and operation environment
10. Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, test automation and related tools, operations, real-time communication)
11. Experience on open-source database platforms with emphasis on building enterprise scale RDMS and NoSQL platforms
12. Knowledge in big data and streaming data & storage pipeline architecture (Lambda/Kappa) and K8 cluster
13. Experience in open-source tools like GIT/Jenkin/CircleCI, and knowledge in Terraform/Ansible will be big plus

Experience

1. Professional PaaS and IaaS experience (optional)
2. Experience with architecture and design
3. Experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service (optional)
4. 2+ years of experience in open-source frameworks

Education

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary

$90,000.00 - $215,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
