Job Description:

This is a remote/virtual position. Candidate can be based anywhere within the United States.

This position is being added to support continued growth of the Sargent & Lundy Consulting group, which regularly provides technical and financial due diligence, planning and advisory services, asset transaction support, project development services, and owner’s engineering services; primarily within the energy sector. This position will require a great deal of face-to-face interaction with utilities, power project developers, investors, technology companies, and financial institutions during the execution of consulting services work for the firm.

Common responsibilities include:

  1. Prepare financial models for planned new energy projects, including feasibility studies, asset transactions, project development, and capital budgeting
  2. Perform due diligence evaluations of power projects, including greenfield projects, refinancing, and acquisitions
  3. Develop operation and maintenance cost estimates for existing power plants and proposed capital improvements
  4. Perform feasibility studies for proposed power projects or to compare alternative power plant technologies and cogeneration
  5. Prepare economic evaluations to assess potential power plant retirements and/or replacements

Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or engineering, with 12 or more years of experience in the power industry, including:

  1. Financial modeling of power projects and energy infrastructure
  2. Technical knowledge in multiple power generation technologies – solar, battery energy storage, wind, nuclear, and thermal power

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  1. Experience in calculating revenue requirements for existing and new power plants or T&D assets
  2. Long-term power supply and transmission planning project experience
  3. EV charging infrastructure, LNG projects, or desalination project experience

  1. You are expected to lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  2. Leaders in these roles often direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
  3. Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
  4. We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Compensation Range: $134,546 - $205,557 Transparency Statement: Sargent & Lundy discloses compensation ranges that comply with all local and state regulations. The total compensation package for eligible positions will include a base salary or an hourly rate and a comprehensive benefits package, reflecting our commitment to rewarding performance and supporting the overall well-being of our employees.
