Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Edit/Media Specialist (Senior Digital Content Specialist) for Rutgers University Libraries. This position reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing and plays a key role in creating and managing web and social media content for Rutgers University Libraries.


Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  1. Supports department operations, project management, assessment, and campaign oversight.
  2. Develops, edits, organizes, and maintains content for libraries.rutgers.edu, the Libraries staff site, and other assigned digital platforms.
  3. Ensures all content aligns with the Libraries’ marketing and communications plan, follows best practices, and is user-friendly, cohesive, and accessible.
  4. Tests webpages for functionality, information architecture, and usability.
  5. Collaborates with the Director of Communications and Marketing, the Vice President for University Libraries, and technical teams to establish and analyze website metrics.
  6. Creates and manages content for system-wide social media channels.
  7. Oversees social media content scheduling and monitoring, fostering coordinated efforts across the Libraries and university, and exploring innovative content formats and strategies aligned with emerging trends.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, digital design, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of website and social media content creation.
  2. Five (5) years of relevant experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  2. Strong attention to detail, and a commitment to accuracy.
  3. Creative and strategic mindset and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  4. Experience producing website content using an open-source CMS platform (such as Drupal or WordPress) and creating content for major social media channels (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) is essential.
  5. Ability to plan, organize, and implement both short-term and long-term website updates.
  6. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  7. Solid understanding of best practices in information architecture, web standards, and user experience to ensure effective user engagement.
  8. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong planning and problem-solving skills.
  9. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities.
  10. Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to a non-technical audience is critical.
  11. Ability to learn new technologies as needed.


Preferred Qualifications

  1. Strong video and photo editing skills with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  2. Experience in videography and/or photography and familiarity with a variety of camera equipment.
  3. Experience developing interfaces using standard web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  4. Proficiency in using website and social media analytics tools, including Google Analytics, Hotjar, and Sprout Social.
  5. Demonstrated ability to plan and execute strategies for tracking and deriving metrics for reporting purposes.
  6. Knowledge of Title II ADA compliance requirements, including experience scanning, triaging, and remediating site issues.
  7. Familiarity with best practices, relevant tools (e.g., remediation software, screen readers, transcription software), and experience developing accessible site features.
