Position Overview

LGES-Vertech is seeking a highly motivated Senior Data Scientist to join our AI & Data Science team. This role will be the key driver in the research, design, and deployment of our Advanced Energy Optimization core engine for power market and its associated software solution, built for battery energy storage systems (BESS). You will act as a subject matter expert, applying advanced AI/ML, optimization, statistical techniques to maximize the commercial value of BESS assets.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role for a technically deep and creative problem-solver. You will directly influence how data science enhances the commercial value, availability, and performance of our BESS fleet by building and deploying an end-to-end intelligent trading system.


Key Responsibilities

· Drive the end-to-end development of the energy optimization engine, integrating with trading algorithms, from initial R&D and algorithm prototyping to production deployment.

· Utilize a deep understanding of operations research and optimization principles to create algorithms that determine the most profitable optimization strategies for BESS assets, considering physical constraints and market rules.

· Design, build, and deploy predictive models for forecasting energy market fundamentals and risk assessment, critical for the optimal BESS trading strategies.

· Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product, energy market analysts, engineering, and DevOps, to define requirements, integrate models into production pipelines, and deliver scalable, cloud-integrated data products.

· Stay abreast of cutting-edge AI/ML and optimization research, applying new techniques like reinforcement learning and deep learning to enhance energy trading model performance.

· Lead the transition of AI/ML models from research to production, ensuring robust, scalable, and efficient software development practices, including modular code, query optimization, and documentation.

· Leverage expertise in handling large-scale, noisy time-series data to analyze market trends, evaluate model performance, and derive actionable insights.

· Serve as a technical resource and mentor for junior team members, contributing to the strategic technical roadmap for the AI/Data Science team.


Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

· Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline.

· 6+ years of experience in data science or applied ML, with at least 3 years industry experience.

· Strong Python development skills, including production-grade software practices and modular codebases.

· Deep understanding of machine learning (supervised and unsupervised), deep learning, and statistical modeling.

· Expertise in time series modeling, forecasting, and anomaly detection.

· Hands-on experience working with large-scale, imperfect datasets and tools such as Polars, Pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, SQL.

· Experience with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.

· Familiarity with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks, or Snowflake.

· Comfortable in Linux environments and with version control systems like Git.

· Proficiency in using Jira for Agile project management.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across diverse global teams.


Preferred:

· Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, or a related quantitative discipline.

· Familiarity with BESS topology and energy storage systems.

· Experience with forecasting and optimization in wholesale electricity markets.

· Familiarity with MLOps tools for model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.

· Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating ML models into DevOps workflows.

· Ability to mentor junior team members and contribute to technical roadmap discussions.
