2. About the Opportunity:

The Senior Backend Engineer will contribute to building scalable, low-latency APIs and a robust data platform that supports data science and product growth. This role is critical in designing and implementing backend systems, debugging production issues, and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders to deliver value. The position supports the company’s expansion by enabling product scalability and reliability, making it vital for sustaining growth and customer satisfaction.

3. Responsibilities:

• Collaborate on technical vision to develop customer-centric products

• Develop and maintain scalable, low-latency developer-facing APIs

• Build and enhance a data platform supporting data science initiatives

• Design and implement backend systems that support product and company growth

• Debug production issues across the technology stack

• Work collaboratively to deliver value to customers and internal teams

4. Requirements:

• Open to applicants based in the United States and Canada; remote friendly with optional NYC office presence

• 6+ years of experience building and scaling backend Python systems in fast-paced environments

• Proven experience developing REST APIs and writing efficient SQL

• Experience with AWS infrastructure

• Ability to build systems from scratch, make trade-offs, and work autonomously in early-stage settings

• Strong customer focus and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle ambiguity

• Collaborative mindset and openness to mentorship, with emphasis on personal growth

• Nice-to-have: proficiency in Django, familiarity with data science tools (Pyspark, Databricks, Delta Lake, Hex), experience with AWS CDK, and knowledge of transaction, merchant, or location data

• Interest or experience in fintech or data product domains

5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• The anticipated base salary range for this role is between $200,000 and $220,000, plus an equity grant.
