Research Assistant - (24141242)


This position provides general research assistance to the Legislative Environmental Policy Office and the Office of Research and Policy Analysis. General research assistance includes researching public policy issues, maintaining assigned databases, providing desktop publishing and graphic design for reports and documents, and providing general office support.

The Research Assistant is expected to be a cooperative problem solver and to provide assistance in some or all of the following areas depending on work assignments:

  • General research
  • Committee coordination
  • Database and website management
  • Publications and graphic design
  • Additional duties during legislative sessions to assist the Legislative Services Division provide bills to legislators and information to the public.

 

 

A research assistant may acquire some of these skills through on-the-job training.

 

 

Special Information

The research assistant is expected to work considerable overtime (comp) hours for the 6 months before and during the regular legislative session as well as before and during special legislative sessions. Additionally, some overtime hours are required to prepare for and participate in interim legislative committee meetings. Research assistants establish work plans to use any excess comp time throughout the interim providing considerable work flexibility during summer months and holiday seasons. While not frequent, some travel may be required for legislative or training purposes.

Salary Range $52,000 to $57,000

Entry base salary for this position is $52,000. Most individuals applying for this position should expect to start near this salary. Applicants with specialized experience, especially with nonpartisan legislative research or support work, may qualify for higher entry. A research assistant will receive a $1.50/hour raise on July 1, 2024.

 


Qualifications:

An Associate degree and 3 years of relevant work experience; or

A Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of relevant work experience.

 

 

This position is eligible for telework on a hybrid basis up to 3 days a week. The employee must reside in Montana and be able to attend frequent in-person meetings. The position is not eligible for telework during the legislative sessions
