Job Description:

My client's mission is to to decarbonize the "hard-to-abate" heavy industrial sectors of the world economy with a new class of electrolyzers. They've created a green hydrogen platform that allows industrial hydrogen producers and users to achieve sustainability and decarbonize, without sacrificing profit. They combine their patented Symbiotic electrolyzer technology with their customers’ onsite process and waste heat to produce the lowest-cost green hydrogen on the market.

 

I'm hiring a highly motivated R&D Engineering Manager to join their growing team that's dedicated to developing transformational “green hydrogen” industrial electrolyzer systems.

 

With that, you will be responsible for directing the day to day operation of a diverse research and development team. The team you'll be managing is responsible for the development, design and testing of all components of their electrolyzers from the individual cell components up to the assembled stacks.

 

Responsibilities:

● Oversee and be responsible for new component development, device integration for steam/vapor electrolyzers, from benchtop to manufacturing

● Continue to build a high-performing team of researchers, engineers, technicians, and scientists. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to team members to enhance their skills and expertise.

● Manage the entire lifecycle of R&D projects, from conception to pre-commercialization. Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet or exceed the set objectives and quality standards.

● Efficiently allocate resources, including budget, personnel, and equipment, to optimize the productivity and efficiency of the R&D program.

● Identify potential risks and challenges in R&D projects and develop mitigation plans. Proactively address any roadblocks that may impede project progress or success.

● Collaborate with other teams, including product, engineering, operations, and business development, among others in a highly efficient, effective manner.

● Oversee the protection of intellectual property generated through R&D activities. Work closely with legal and IP teams to secure patents and protect the organization's inventions and innovations.

● Stay up to date with market trends, competitor activities, and emerging technologies in the industry.

 

Qualifications:

● 5-10 years of proven experience leading a team of STEM professionals in a related industry

● Experience with the successful translation of R&D to commercialization the fields of batteries, electrolyzers, fuel cells, solar cells, or other analogous devices

● Proven application of design of experiments and other testing frameworks to R&D programs.

● Proven track record of successful project management, while having worked with the most cutting-edge project and people management techniques and resources relevant to a high-tech, hardware startup.

● Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.

● Deep understanding of obtaining successful outcomes for both exploratory, experimentally driven research and highly planned, regimented engineering development, and everything in between those two extremes.

● Experience managing and/or mentoring new employees early in their careers.
