About the Role

The Release Train Engineer (RTE) serves as a servant leader and coach for the Agile Release Train (ART), supporting scrum and kanban teams in delivering value and meeting organizational objectives. This role facilitates ART ceremonies and major planning events—including quarterly Big Room Planning (BRP)—ensuring alignment, transparency, and effective execution across teams.

The RTE partners closely with Product, Architecture, leadership, and other stakeholders to remove impediments, manage risks, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Strong documentation skills and attention to detail are essential. This role also includes supervisory responsibilities for Scrum Masters across the organization.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

1. Facilitate ART ceremonies: PI Planning (BRP), System Demos, Inspect & Adapt workshops, and Scrum of Scrums.
2. Coordinate BRP and other in-person events in collaboration with internal teams and external vendors.
3. Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters on Lean‑Agile practices and mindset.
4. Manage and optimize program execution by monitoring objectives, dependencies, risks, and progress.
5. Promote continuous improvement across the ART, emphasizing learning and innovation.
6. Maintain clear communication with stakeholders regarding progress, impediments, and delivery outcomes.
7. Develop and report on key ART and team-level metrics supporting value delivery and predictability.
8. Facilitate cross-team dependency management and help resolve prioritization conflicts across Product, Architecture, and business stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

1. 3+ years of experience in an Agile delivery, Release Train Engineer, Scrum Master, or program management-related role.
2. Strong knowledge of SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) and Lean‑Agile principles.
3. Experience coaching and facilitating Agile teams across multiple workstreams.
4. Experience in people management and professional development.
5. Excellent communication, facilitation, and leadership skills with the ability to influence without authority.
6. Background in project/program management or Agile delivery leadership.
7. Ability to manage complex dependencies and resolve conflicts constructively.
8. Proficiency with Agile tools such as Jira, Rally, or Azure DevOps.

Preferred Qualifications

1. SAFe Release Train Engineer certification or equivalent.
2. Experience supporting or leading large-scale Agile transformations.
3. Technical background to understand system architecture and integration challenges.
4. Strong facilitation skills for large group events (100+ attendees).
