NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range

$86,300 - $166,800
 

  • Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Do you want to join a dynamic team and apply your technical skills towards challenges with impact to national security? If so, you are one of the R&D Mechanical Design Engineers we seek.

As part of the surety mechanisms group, you’ll help craft unique solutions for the development and design support of mechanism components-components that play a critical role in assuring the safety and security of our nation’s nuclear deterrent in a wide range of scenarios. In this role, you’ll collaborate with engineering and research teams across the broader Nuclear Security Enterprise to produce, and assess these mechanically intricate components in assemblies consisting of over 100 custom-designed and built piece parts.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:
Utilize your expertise in mechanical engineering to field high-integrity products, meeting both technical and programmatic requirements
Employ analytical thinking to work through ambiguous problems with a multi-disciplinary team
Develop innovative design concepts through requirements negotiation, trade studies, and virtual prototyping
Advance component designs to a qualification-ready state through detailed definition development, modeling/analysis, and iterative design-build-test cycles
Mature designs to a production-ready state through specification development and collaboration with the production agency
Investigate and resolve anomalies through analysis and testing
Present your work to peers, customers, and management in formal and informal settings
This position will offer you substantial opportunity for training, technical mentorship, and work across multiple nuclear deterrence programs. Some travel is required.
Qualifications We Require

Master’s or PhD in mechanical engineering or a related discipline; or Bachelor’s in a STEM discipline plus 4 years’ experience
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoE Q security clearance
Qualifications We Desire

Experience in the design, development, and production of mechanical products
Working knowledge of manufacturing processes used for precision metal parts
Basic proficiency with computer aided design/drafting
Experience with mechanical modeling/analysis approaches and tools (e.g., commercial FEA software)
Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and tolerance analysis
Familiarity with materials characterization techniques
Proven ability to interact well with diverse teams
Excellent communication skills including the ability to prepare clearly-written reports and deliver well-articulated briefings
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams and across differing communication styles
Genuine technical curiosity, and an interest and aptitude for learning more
Strong commitment to quality, safety, collaboration, and teamwork
Active DoE Q security clearance
