LOCATION

IFG Companies is hiring in Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, North Carolina and on a case-by-case basis in New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia. Applicants must reside in one of these states to be hired. Remote and flexible work arrangements are provided to all employees based on manager approval.

SALARY RANGE

The expected salary range is $90,000 to $125,000 and subject to change at any time at the discretion of the Company.

Position Summary

As a Product Developer you will develop, design and maintain propriety commercial property and inland marine forms. You will also monitor, analyze and implement ISO and AAIS product changes and advise business unit on changes. This role plays an important role in contributing to marketing activities designed to achieve profit and sale objectives on a countrywide multi-product basis. The Product Developer will ensure successful implementation and consistent adherence with corporate goals, objectives and strategies, by collaborating with peers, department heads and senior management. You will also need to maintain a cutting-edge mentality, be proactive and visible with underwriting Agents and Brokers.

Primary Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Accountable for developing and maintaining a property and inland marine portfolio which supports the company's long and short-term business strategies.
  • Identify and capture profitable opportunities via development of new property and inland marine products and enhancements of existing products by conducting competitor market research and analysis.
  • Develop and maintain a desired mix of product offerings by class, geographic location and program specific coverages that are compatible with the corporate risk appetite and supportive of business goals and objectives.
  • Research, and analyze industry trends and emerging issues to support the development of products, services and/or new programs (i.e. identify target business and industry and economic factors, monitor legislative changes and judicial decisions, etc.). Monitor industry and key competitor developments, and report significant and related events. Recognize opportunities to exploit and penetrate new markets
  • Review existing IFG proprietary, ISO and AAIS property and inland marine products to determine if quality, substance, and marketability can be enhanced. Outline any suggested changes and the time and resources needed to complete the tasks. Support Senior Filing Analyst with the filing and maintenance of state rates, rules and forms for IFG proprietary and AAIS products.
  • Coordinate with actuarial on product results (i.e. line profitability analysis, quarterly loss trends, utilization, productivity, etc.) and make recommendations for corrective action as necessary.
  • Stay abreast of ISO and AAIS property, inland marine, and Equipment Breakdown coverage changes. Analyze impact of ISO and AAIS changes on IFG products and support the updating of IFG products as needed. This includes initiating form and rate filings, as well as coordinating with Senior Filing Analyst on Insurance Department's inquiries as needed.
  • Meet with product development peers, department heads, product line managers senior management and other cross functional areas to determine the property and inland marine product development needs across the organization. Prioritize tasks and set goals, identify customer needs and maintain an appropriate level of customer service. Perform all functions to support profit, growth and expense management.
  • Work closely with managers as new IFG property and inland marine products are introduced to assist in the implementation of new product lines. Provide UW staff with counsel regarding underwriting, marketing and coverage issues. Assist underwriting management with the development and maintenance of manuals detailing the underwriting guidelines, applications, marketing information, coverage forms and endorsements, rates and rules, authority levels and reinsurance proposals as needed.
  • Develop and maintain coverage forms and endorsements for all assigned IFG products directly, via training or in a supervisory role.
  • Assist IS&T with implementation by recommending enhancements and upgrades to systems that support the property and inland marine products.
  • Assist Marketing in creating a corporate identity for our product lines as a whole, creating as much consistency and uniformity as possible without jeopardizing creativity and marketability.
  • Conduct educational seminars for company employees and producers as required. Support training initiatives on products for all lines of business provided by the Company.
  • Participate in claim strategy discussion on complex or high value claims.
  • Develop and enhance professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Be knowledgeable of reinsurance contracts for property and inland marine lines of business.
  • Function with a high level of independence and a high degree of authority.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of filings, state statutes and insurance department regulations of the various states as well as company underwriting guidelines
  • Ability to work with detailed technical material
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and timely handle large volumes of work. Knowledge of commercial lines rating
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with coworkers
  • Possessing, significant progress toward or motivated to complete one or more of the following insurance designations CPCU, AU, ARM, and ASLI, etc.
  • Ability to use Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word or other data-based applications.
  • Superior writing skills and highly developed communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed

Education / Experience / Certifications

  • College degree preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in commercial underwriting with expertise in the following:
  • Commercial Property
  • Commercial Inland Marine
  • Commercial Crime
  • Equipment Breakdown
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience drafting and developing commercial property and inland marine insurance forms and endorsements
  • Surplus Lines industry experience a plus, preferably with an insurance carrier with MGA binding authority

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands are considered to be that of an office environment, climate controlled, with minimal physical exertion. This position requires prolonged sitting, ability to utilize a computer and interactions with others in meetings or via phone.
