North Carolina Central University is hiring a postdoctoral scholar who will play a key role in enabling community science activities in the NSF-sponsored project “Leading Inclusive Transformation in Geoscience (LIT GEO)”, which is focused on broadening participation in Earth science and in conducting community-based, society-relevant, geoscience research in learning ecosystems with community organizations. The project is a collaboration with East Carolina University (ECU) and the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo. Faculty, post-baccalaureate and M.S. students, and post-doctoral scholars from the three institutions and community organizations will work together.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Lead community science program development and supervise research in Geosciences
• Focus on the NSF LIT GEO Project
• Community engagement, educational program development, event coordination, and research contributing to scholarly publications
• Collaborate with scholars from ECU and the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo
• Mentor participant research and organize Summits
• Pursue independent research in Geosciences
• Engage in teaching experiences
• Receive training
• Participate in exchanges to prepare for future career
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred Experience
Experience with community outreach, community-based geoscience research, community engagement, geoscience education, environmental geoscience, geohazards, water quality, water, soil, water contamination, and other society-relevant geoscience areas.Experience with educational program development and/or assessment. Proficiency in Spanish will be beneficial.
