Serves as a technical/scientific resource to the government client on projects, analyzing problems and applying theoretical techniques to develop solutions that measure, evaluate, define, and mitigate the nuclear survivability of US systems and equipment. Works on advanced, complex technical projects that require state of the art technical or industry knowledge on subjects such as quantum mechanics, optics, electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic and particle radiation, electronics design, and material science. Resolves highly complex technical issues, conducts or monitors advanced engineering research, and recommends alterations to development and design. Prepares and reviews technical documentation and presentations to explain the approach, associated assumptions and conclusions of scientific investigations. Integrates and coordinates work within the department and other departments. Responsible for risk management and quality control efforts. Applies technical expertise directly to work efforts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 2 years of related experience in an engineering or scientific function, including research and development or acquisition, preferably nuclear-related
• AT MINIMUM, possess an active SECRET-level security clearance with the ability to obtain a Top Secret//SCI.
• Demonstrated and proven success in physics, engineering, material science, or other scientific program or project
• Knowledge in one or more of the following: DOD weapons systems, aircraft survivability, DOD survivability, EMP, nuclear blackout, radiation, radiation transport, nuclear engineering, and/or nuclear weapons effects
• Must be able to work independently, and complete tasking with minimum guidance or supervision
• Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills.
• Must be able to brief senior government officials, Flag and General Officers and Senior Executives.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and use of Teams.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting literary research and reviewing technical journals.

HIGHLY DESIRED EXPERIENCE

• Active Top Secret//SCI clearance
• Masters of Science in Mathematics, Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, or related curriculum, plus 1 - 2 years of experience in a related field
• Working knowledge of nuclear weapons effects and their battlefield effects on terrestrial and space equipment, and/or understanding of Testing and Evaluation and acuqisition
• Working knowledge of pertinent programming languages (R, Python, C++, etc.) and radiation transport and hydrodynamics modeling and simulation tools
• Project Management experience

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION(S) REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry or a related field.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Work will be performed at the Government-site or prime contractor facilities in Lorton, VA
• Remote support from other locations or temporary duty travel may be required occasionally at the following locations: Dugway Proving Ground, UT; White Sands Missile Range, NM; Nevada National Security Site, NV; Yuma Proving Grounds, AZ; and Naval Air Warfare Center, China Lake, CA.
• Travel is required (10 - 20%)
