Job Description:

HealthFirst Medical Group is seeking a mid-level PHP Developer to help build and improve the technology that supports our teams and business operations in Wichita, Kansas. This full-time opportunity offers a salary of $71,000–$100,000, along with mentorship, professional development, and the autonomy to make meaningful contributions. We are looking for a reliable, curious developer who takes pride in delivering thoughtful, maintainable software.

About The Company

HealthFirst Medical Group is a Wichita-based organization focused on dependable, practical technology and collaborative ways of working. Our teams value clear communication, shared context, and solutions that support real business needs. We document decisions and processes so colleagues can stay informed and make progress without relying on unnecessary meetings.

We believe strong systems are built through steady improvement, thoughtful collaboration, and a willingness to learn. As our technology needs evolve, we aim to create an environment where developers can contribute ideas, take ownership, and grow their skills with support from experienced colleagues.

About The Role

As a mid-level PHP Developer, you will design, build, test, deploy, and maintain software that supports HealthFirst Medical Group’s operations. You will work with technology analysts, engineers, and product partners to understand how our teams work and translate those needs into dependable technical solutions. This role is suited to someone with at least four years of experience in technology who is comfortable balancing independent work with active collaboration.

Your work may span PHP applications, APIs, internal tools, front-end development, and technical investigations. You will help evaluate options, explain tradeoffs, and deliver solutions that are practical to support over time. While PHP development is central to the position, familiarity with technologies such as Node.js, Tailwind CSS, and Webpack will help you contribute across our development environment.

Qualifications

At least four years of professional experience in technology or software development, with practical PHP development experience.

Experience building, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining applications or APIs.

Strong multitasking and prioritization skills, with the ability to maintain quality while managing competing work.

Sound judgment when making technical decisions, assessing tradeoffs, and communicating recommendations.

Comfort working with analysts, product partners, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements.

Familiarity with collaborative development workflows and the ability to learn systems of increasing scale and complexity.

Interest in, or experience with, Node.js, Tailwind CSS, Webpack, and related development tools.

A dependable, self-motivated approach and a willingness to document work and share knowledge.

An interest in mentoring colleagues and contributing positively to a supportive, delivery-focused team.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with technology analysts to ensure software models and workflows reflect how teams operate in practice.

Design, develop, test, document, and maintain APIs and PHP applications for internal and business use.

Build and improve Tailwind CSS tooling and shared development resources that help engineers work efficiently.

Develop quick technical proofs of concept, including Webpack investigations, to answer feasibility questions and inform decisions.

Discuss Node.js and other implementation tradeoffs with product partners, balancing business priorities, timelines, and technical realities.

Refactor and improve existing modules, including systems that require careful planning and validation.

Participate in code reviews, troubleshoot defects, and contribute to reliable deployment practices.

Keep technical documentation current, communicate progress clearly, and help teammates develop their skills.

Benefits

The expected salary range is $71,000–$100,000, depending on qualifications and experience. HealthFirst Medical Group offers a growth plan, mentorship, and benefits, as well as flexibility to organize your workweek. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of meaningful assignments while building your technical expertise and contributing to a collaborative Wichita team.

Equal Opportunity

HealthFirst Medical Group is committed to providing equal employment opportunities. Employment decisions are made without discrimination on the basis of any status protected by applicable federal, state, or local law. We value a respectful, inclusive workplace and encourage qualified candidates to apply.
