Job Description:

PHP Developer (Production Support / Maintenance)

Type: Contract-to-Hire

Focus: Production Support (PST) ticket resolution + code quality improvements

PHP Versions: PHP 7 & PHP 8

Role Overview

We are seeking a PHP Developer to support a high-volume production environment by resolving Production Support (PST) tickets across several internal applications, including EDI-UI, Validate, and Price Transparency (with the primary focus on Validate). This role is largely focused on maintaining and improving an existing PHP codebase, not greenfield development.

The ideal candidate is a strong core PHP engineer who can work efficiently through production issues while also improving code quality through OOP best practices, design patterns, and unit testing—helping reduce regressions and avoid duplicated code.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Resolve production support (PST) tickets efficiently and accurately
  2. Maintain and enhance existing PHP applications, with a primary focus on Validate
  3. Troubleshoot and fix backend issues impacting production systems
  4. Improve code quality by reducing duplication and applying clean, reusable patterns
  5. Implement and maintain unit tests to prevent regressions and improve stability
  6. Apply object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and established design patterns
  7. Collaborate with internal team members to prioritize and deliver high-impact fixes
  8. Contribute to improving long-term maintainability of a legacy framework codebase

What Success Looks Like (First 3 Months)

  1. Increased throughput of completed PST tickets
  2. Code changes delivered with unit test coverage
  3. Reduced code duplication through reusable, maintainable solutions
  4. Fewer unintended breaks/regressions when changes are introduced

Required Qualifications

  1. Strong experience with PHP 7 and PHP 8
  2. Strong knowledge of core/vanilla PHP (legacy codebase support)
  3. Experience maintaining and debugging production systems
  4. Solid understanding of OOP and common design patterns
  5. Experience writing and maintaining unit tests (PHPUnit or similar)
  6. Ability to work quickly while maintaining high quality and attention to detail

Nice to Have

  1. Experience with Laravel (not required)
  2. Familiarity with EDI systems or related workflows (nice to have, not required)
  3. Experience working in environments with high production ticket volume

Why This Role

This is a great opportunity for a developer who enjoys solving real production problems, improving stability, and making meaningful quality improvements in a codebase that needs modernization and stronger testing practices.
